The 52 Witnesses: A Complete Fact-Check of Robert Breaker’s ‘Saved by Your Prayer?’ Video, Part 2, Fake Quotes from Billy Sunday, Lester Roloff, Bob Jones Sr., R.G. Lee, and Gipsy Smith

"Don't believe everything you read on the internet". - Abraham Lincoln

Thank you to my Brother in Christ Don Nesbitt, the Lord's bloodhound (His youtube handle is @w46try7) for sounding the alarm about Robert Breaker.

Robert Breaker gave 52 "quotes" from men, that all said the sinner's prayer is a work, in Robert Breaker's video "Saved by Your Prayer? #sinnersprayer #savedbyprayer #salvation #prayer #prayers #praying #faith"

"My second point, I want to go to other saints of God and see what they say. I want to go back 500 years. All right? I wrote this book, The Unbroken Chain of Salvation by Faith in His Blood, and I went back 2,000 years. So I won't go back that far, but I've gone 2,000 years of ministers saying you got to trust the blood, which is trusting the gospel. Trusting the gospel is trusting the blood of Jesus Christ, because the gospel is the sacrifice and death, burial, resurrection of Jesus, and that had to have been by the shedding of blood. Now, here is 500 years of preachers saying, 'It's not a prayer that saves you.' Jack Hyles, 'The prayer does not save. The prayer is the expression of faith, but faith is what saves. It is not the words of the prayer that save a man.' Curtis Hutson, now you say, 'Who are these people?' Well, maybe you don't know, but these are famous independent Baptist preachers or fundamentalist preachers." - Robert Breaker, Saved by Your Prayer? #sinnersprayer #savedbyprayer #salvation #prayer #prayers #praying #faith

This is a fact checking of them, and article 2 in the series. There will be 5 articles in total. While this is the second article, there is no actual need to read the previous article to be caught up. The premise is the same in every article.

The previous.

The Jack Hyles quote was fake, and so was the Curtis Hutson quote.

Lewis Sperry Chafer

"Salvation is not secured by praying but by believing. No ritual, prayer or ordinance can add anything to saving faith."

Fake quote, however it's very close to an actual real quote.

The One Condition of Salvation

by Lewis S. Chafer (1871-1952)

"Fourth, A person is not saved because he prays. Multitudes of people pray who are not saved. Praying is not believing on the Lord Jesus Christ; though the new attitude of belief may be expressed in prayer. 'Without faith it is impossible to please God.' In no Scripture is salvation conditioned on asking or praying. It is faith in the Saviour Who gave His precious blood a ransom for all. The publican, living and praying before the cross, pleads that God would be propitiated to him a sinner. The issue now can only be one of believing that God has been so propitiated." - Lewis Sperry Chafer, The One Condition of Salvation

I can prove to you that Lewis S. Chafer does not teach Robert Breaker's theology.

"A moment's consideration would disclose the immeasurable wrong that is committed when God is asked to be propitious, when, at the infinite cost of the death of His Son, He is propitious. The truth that God is propitious constitutes the very heart of the gospel of divine grace, and the one who does not recognize this and sees no impropriety in the use of the publican's prayer today has yet to comprehend what is the first principle in the plan of salvation through Christ. Men are not saved by asking God to be good, or merciful, or propitious; they are saved when they believe God has been good and merciful enough to provide a propitiating Savior. The sinner is saved, not because he prevails on God to withhold from him the blow of judgment that is due him for his sin, but because he believes that that has fallen on his Substitute. If it is thought that all this is but a mere theological distinction and that after all God is love and the sinner will be treated in love, consideration should be given to the fact that it was for the very purpose of providing a righteous ground for salvation of sinners that the Son of God became incarnate, that He died, and that He arose from the dead. To imply that all this—and there is no salvation apart from it—is only a theological speculation, is to reject the whole plan of salvation through a Savior and to assume to stand before God, who is consuming fire, without shelter, shield, or surety." - Lewis Sperry Chafer, A Voice from the Past: The Terms of Salvation

Now, compare this to Breaker.

Breaker, what's your soteriology?

"it says speaking of Jesus and whom we have redemption through his blood the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace forgiveness of sins all sins past present and future is only through his blood and salvation is by faith and that faith must be in the blood of Jesus Christ"

So, Robert Breaker's theology specifically has the Blood of Jesus Christ as the object of faith. Chafer's salvation condition is men believing God is merciful to bring a substitutionary Savior, not just the blood.

"THE DAY OF THE LORD" is mid Tribulation (Daniel's Seventieth Week) to the White Throne (2 Pet. 2:9), and there is no way any scholar can locate the prophetic meanings in those periods unless he believes what he reads in the ENGLISH TEXT. There isn't a case on record where any knowledge of Hebrew or Greek enabled any scholar to locate the expression correctly. Those who knew Greek and Hebrew had to follow Scofield, Darby, Pember, and Larkin where these men found the truth first in the ENGLISH TEXT. Anyone can find it, anyone who believes what they read. And be not deceived; long before Lewis Sperry CHAFER tried to convince you that a knowledge of Hebrew and Greek was necessary to know what he knew (see Systematic Theology), it was already well known by people who didn't know a Hebrew hora from a Greek restaurant." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Minor Prophets Vol. 1, Chapter 5

"Verse 12 should be compared with Hosea 10:4. Horses do not run races on a rock track, and you don't dig a plowshare into granite. Israel has tried to do something that is impossible, and as a consequence, they have 'turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock' (vs. 12). The idea is that their hearts are like rock (see Job 41:24), and where the ground is too hard to plow (see Matt. 13:20), no good fruit can be grown (see Mark 4:20). 'But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel' (vs. 14). [Cf. Pharaoh and comments in Exodus 7:3.] 'And they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath' (vs. 14). [See 1 Kings 8:65 and 2 Kings 14:25 for the expression, where Hemath is 'Hamath.'] 'Unto the river of the wilderness' (vs. 14). The expression 'brook of the Arabah' has been substituted for the text by two of the most depraved corruptions that ever were vomited out of the pit: the ASV of 1901 (recommended by F. F. Bruce, L. S. CHAFER, Dr. Custer, A. T. Robertson, J. G. Machen, Fred Afman, Kenneth Wuest, and all faculties of all Conservative seminaries from 1910–1960) and the RSV of 1952 (recommended by Bishop Pike, Dean Weigle, Ralph Sockman, Eugene Carson Blake, Poteat, and all Liberal preachers in the NCCC from 1946–1980). Cow birds of a feather steal nests together." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Minor Prophets Vol. 1, Chapter 6

"His words shall taste better than honey (Psa. 19:10) and be more nourishing than our necessary food (Job 23:12).

Where Bullinger, Clarke, Dummelow, Jamieson, Henry, Huxtable, Fausset, Lipsius, Ellicott, Brown, Alford, CHAFER, Harrison, Simpson, Westcott, Herklotz, Lange, Meyer, Kennedy, Lightfoot, Neal, Michael, Muller, Custer, Vincent, Beare, Dibelius, Hanson, Rendall, Masson, Hogg, Burton, and Ridderbos correct our Holy Bible, we shall (with charity!!) correct them, giving thanks to the same God for equal enlightenment and treating them with the same tolerance with which they treat the Reformation text of God's immortal, infallible, eternal Word." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians Commentary (The Bible Believer's Commentary Series), Introduction

"'Who IS THE IMAGE of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature' (vs. 15). With this clear definition ('the image,' see Heb. 1:2–3), one would think that the theologians could get Adam straightened out, but to this day, Seminaries, of any persuasion, invent an 'image' for Adam to be 'created in' and shy away from the clear definitions given in 2 Corinthians 4:4 and here. 'The IMAGE of God' is Jesus Christ (John 14:8–13); and that is clearer than any textbook on Theology written by Strong, Dabney, Kuyper, CHAFER, Hodge, Berkhof, Calvin, or Arminius." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians Commentary (The Bible Believer's Commentary Series), Chapter 1

"With verse 15 in mind, King Solomon applies Aristotle's famous 'Golden Mean,' about 500 years before that fakir began to shoot off his mouth. The idea, here, is 'if you don't want to die early, then don't be an expert on righteousness or wickedness.' You can die 'before your time' (vs. 17), even though John Calvin, Hodge, Mill, Gill, Kuyper, Dabney, Strong, CHAFER, Ross, Garrett, and Machen (and several other dozen deceived Calvinists) thought it was impossible. Hezekiah gets his 'time' changed by fifteen years (Isa. 38:5). The Hardshell, TULIP crowd never played chess. They think you have to coerce your opponent (irresistible grace) into making his moves because you are not smart enough to adjust yourself to his moves. There is no fool like an educated Christian who corrects the Bible. If you want to see how the founder of TULIP made out when reading the Bible, witness his comment on Matthew 27:9. 'How the name of Jeremiah CREPT in, I confess I do not know, nor do I give myself much trouble to inquire. The passage, itself, plainly shows the name of Jeremiah put down by MISTAKE, instead of ZECHARIAH.'" - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Ecclesiastes Commentary (The Bible Believer's Commentary Series), Chapter 7

"'Except the Father which hath sent me, DRAW HIM.' Note again the reference is not to any Christian who showed up on this earth after Acts 2: 'I will raise him up at the last day' (as in vss. 39–40; see pp. 205–206). Dumb thumps like Calvin, Hodge, Warfield, Machen, Dummelow, Boetner, Berkhof, CHAFER, Coppes, Hoeksema, MacArthur, et al., have all misapplied the passage to A.D. 33–A.D. 2004, not realizing that after Christ was crucified (John 12:32), He drew 'ALL MEN' to Him. These blind guides of the blind also forgot that any unsaved man could ASK God to 'draw him' as Christ's bride did back in the Song of Solomon 1:4." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Gospel of John Commentary (The Bible Believer's Commentary Series), Chapter 6

"I'll open mine. My 'teachers' were Fred Afman, Daniel Krusheck, Barton Payne, William Brunner, Gilbert Stenholm, Bob Jones Jr., A. T. Robertson, Philip Schaff, Dr. Brokenshire, Dr. Whitte, Nestle, Westcott, Hort, and the 'commentators' you find referred to in this book; plus Trench, Rendall, Thayer, Wuest, Toy, Bullinger, Warfield, Bengel, Coynebeare, Grotius, Burton, DeWette, Berkhof, Dabney, Kuyper, Hodge, Alford, Lipsius, CHAFER, and Huxtable." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Psalms Commentary Volume 2 (The Bible Believer's Commentary Series), Psalm 119

"I mean, after giving careful attention to most of the literature on Astronomy and Abnormal Psychology, and much of the literature on Chemistry, Geology, and Archaeology; plus the esoteric literature on UFOs, space ships, ESP, TM, the wisdom of the Rosicrucians, black magic, demonism, Satanism, clairvoyance, the cults, the Sutras, Shastas, Puranas, Tripitaka, and the Koran; plus the handbooks on masonry, carpentry, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and survival; plus the literature on World War I and II, the Civil War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the campaigns of Alexander, Baibars, Hannibal, Napoleon, Saladin, Frederick, and Gustavus Adolphus; plus the literature by Shaw, Lord, Leckie, Remarque, Heinrich, Catton, Critchell, Mailer, Jones, Cope, Craig, Woulk, Cochester, Michene, Laurence, Middleton, Yank Magazine, Churchill, Bowman, Stiles, Van Praag, Casey, the Ballantine Series, Myrer, Shirer, Wyeth, West, Dawes, Henderson, Goss, Freeman, Mauldin, Pyle, Forsyth, Poert, Hinman, Trobrian, Pullen, Lewis, Wallace, Livermore, Bowman, Lamb, Bulwer, Garrett, and Hemingway; plus the literature on Karate, Judo, close combat, hand-to-hand fighting, infantry weapons and tactics; plus the literature on drawing, popular and classical music, art techniques, sculpture, opera, symphony; and the theologies of Calvin, Anselm, Aquinas, CHAFER, Strong, Berkhof, Dabney, Kuyper, Hodge, and O'Leary; and then plowing through forty-two Bible commentaries and forty church histories numbering over 200 volumes, plus six different Greek Testaments, what do you think a man like ME is going to do when some naive, superstitious muttonhead says, 'We should RESPECT the labors of these men because of their untiring efforts to....' To do WHAT, doctor? Make mud pies? String beads? Cut out paper dolls?" - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Job Commentary (The Bible Believer's Commentary Series), Chapter 38

"This is a wild thought (Ezek. 37), and it is so wild that we are going to drop it. But before dropping it, notice the identical type of statement in Matthew 10:23. In both statements He is telling half-truths, unless those addressed have a future ministry in Palestine. But the water is getting deeper. If L. S. CHAFER begins to drown here, how shall Berkhof and Strong ever make it?

'Many false prophets...shall deceive many.' The statement is not hard to believe if one knows his Bible. The contrast between what is going on in the Church Age already and what is found in the book is so marked that anyone can see it." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Gospel of Matthew Commentary (The Bible Believer's Commentary Series), Chapter 24

What a great man to quote!

You have a dumb thump who was a literal Bible rejecter, and we have him who teaches Romans 10's prayer is not literal and is not a condition, contrary to the teaching of actual 4th Century Greek readers who had the right manuscripts, Diodore of Tarsus and John Chrysostom.

I wonder who's more trustworthy.

A man who was taught Greek by a random dude versus two native Greek speakers.

J.C. O'Hare

"Salvation is not the result of words spoken in prayer."

No source outside of Breaker.

Bob Jones Sr.

"No man was ever saved by the words of a prayer."

Again, the only source is Robert Breaker of the Cloud Church.

This is a primary source, Dr. Peter S. Ruckman recounting Bob Jones Sr.'s salvation testimony.

"You take that kind of stuff, that stuff, that stuff, that stuff is important. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That's the stuff it is. Nothing more important than that. Just Simon Peter Richards, I don't know who he was. Bob Jones Sr. said, 'I've had brush harbor meetings out there,' and he said, 'I think I was saved sometime before I was five years old.'

He said, 'I don't know,' but he said, 'I can remember going home when I was five years old and screaming and crying and asking God to save me because I didn't want to burn in hell.' And he went to Bob Jones to get many assurances, but he got saved. And his whole life got saved." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Dr Ruckman, "Working in God's Vineyard" 1991

This is what Bob Jones Sr. actually did teach.

"'Pray to be saved. Ask the Lord to save you.' This is what I heard a minister say to a convicted sinner who came forward for prayer at the close of an evangelistic service. Nowhere in the Bible are men told to pray to be saved. There are examples where men did pray and were saved. Men are told to repent, to believe, to obey the Gospel, but the Bible never says to pray for salvation. It does say that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, but nowhere does the Bible command men to pray to be saved. I think I know why, God, who made the human heart, knew that it was not necessary to tell convicted sinners to pray. If a sinner can see Jesus Christ on the cross, it is as natural for him to pray as it is for birds to sing or flowers to bloom. 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.' To believe in Jesus means exactly what it does to believe in a doctor. When I say I believe in a doctor, what do I mean? I mean that I believe he is a good doctor, that he knows his business, and when I get sick I send for the doctor and I put my case in his hands. I take my hands off the case and leave it in his hands. Of course, I take the medicine the doctor says I should take, but my case is in his hands. That is what it means to believe in Jesus. A sin-sick sinner, knowing that he can do nothing for himself and believing Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He is able to save lost men, turns his case over to Jesus. The man tries to do what Jesus says to do, but he rests his case in the hands of Jesus. Men cannot partly save themselves. All a guilty sinner can do is to come in his absolute helplessness to Jesus Christ our Lord, and Jesus says, 'Him that cometh unto Me I will in no wise cast out.'" Bob Jones Sr., "Comments On Here And Hereafter," chapter: Prayer And Praise, page 163-164; Bob Jones University Press, Inc., © 1942

But, what saves you specifically Bob Jones Sr.?

"Men are not saved by analyzing the truth of the Gospel. They are saved by accepting the truth of the Gospel. It is true, whether men believe it or not. It is as true as the multiplication table. Men use the multiplication table to do what the multiplication table is supposed to do. The Gospel will do what it is supposed to do. 'It is the power of God unto salvation unto every one that believeth.'" —Dr. Bob Jones Sr., "Comments On Here And Hereafter," chapter: Preaching, Evangelism, page 123; Bob Jones University Press, Inc., © 1942

So, Bob Jones Sr. taught that praying wasn't explicitly commanded in the Bible, because any convicted sinner would pray to God for salvation.

Monroe Parker

"A prayer never saved anybody. Faith in Christ does."

Monroe Parker did not say this. It is a paraphrase of Greg Stier.

The only source is Robert Breaker of the Cloud Church.

"Saying a prayer never saved anybody. It's a person's faith in Jesus that saves them." - Greg Stier, How to Give an Effective Invitation (Without Crash Landing)

https://www.christianpost.com/news/how-to-give-an-effective-invitation-without-crash-landing.html

Dr. Peter S. Ruckman gives an actual account of his evangelizing in Job Commentary (The Bible Believer's Commentary Series), Chapter 36.

"Monroe ('Monk') Parker witnessed to a young man in a drug store in a small town where he was holding a tent meeting. Earlier, the young buck had tried to pick a fight with Monk by bumping him into a table. Monk said, 'You did that on purpose.' The young man said, 'So what? What of it?'

'I'm not afraid of you,' said Monk Parker.

'Well, step outside and take off your Christianity about five minutes, and we'll see whether you're afraid of me or not,' challenged the young man.

'I haven't got the kind of Christianity I can take off for five minutes,' retorted Parker, 'and besides that, I know who you are. You're so-and-so, and your daddy has been down at the tent praying for you all week.'

The young man apologized and promised that he would come out to the revival 'one night' that week. 'Maybe,' said Parker, 'you and I ought to go back in one of these booths and settle the issue with Christ NOW.' 'Naw,' said the young man, 'but I promise you, I will come out to the meeting tonight.'

'You might not make it,' said Parker.

'What do you think I am, a liar?' said the young man.

'No, but something might come up; you never can tell. Why don't you and I have a word of prayer, and you can receive Christ here, right in the store?'

'I'll be down tonight,' said the young man, and he turned on his heel and left. Fifty minutes later he was dead. He died screaming, holding on to the bars of a cheap iron bed in a cheap hotel. Not twenty minutes after he left the drugstore a car had run over him. When Monk Parker got to the bed, the doctor was already shrugging his shoulders. Monk yelled John 3:16 into the dying man's ears. With one mighty effort that young buck opened his eyes, stared wildly, and then cursed God in four letter words you couldn't possibly have misinterpreted. 'Beware, lest he take thee away with HIS STROKE.'"

Lester Roloff

"Salvation is not in the prayer. It is in the Lord Jesus Christ."

Fake quote.

Cannot find it.

Lester Roloff taught “You’d say, well I never did pray. You never did get saved either.”

He also taught the sinner's prayer to the extent there are a great ton of compilations on Lester Roloff teaching the sinner's prayer.

"You'd say well I never did pray. You never did get saved either" - Lester Roloff

...chapter 4, and verse 2: "Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving."

Say, what he meant when he said continue? I tell you what he meant. It means that you get saved while you're praying. You say, "Well, I never did pray." You never did get saved, either. You'd say, "I thought, I didn't know there was anything like prayer." Prayer won't save you, but it'll put you where God can save you. What makes you think God'd save you if you didn't want to be saved and you hadn't asked Him? Fellow went down in the lake of Trinidad one time. He's out there, and brother, he didn't he didn't just wave at me, hollered, "Help!" Boy, he meant it. Now, that was his prayer. And I had a big old tube that I would drag along with a long rope, so that when my Layfield plug got hung on a stump down below, I didn't swim way out to it in the deep water, then go down and get it loosened. I couldn't afford to lose it, I'll tell you that. I had a big truck inner tube and tied around me with a rope, and I'd go out there and I'd go down. When I came up, that truck tube was waiting on me. And I took that tube, and I threw it, and, brother, do you think he asked me to come get him? No, he said, "Man, give me anything to hold on to." He grabbed it. Now, he first prayed. I offered him salvation, he grabbed it. And I tugged him in." - Lester Roloff, Prayer by Evangelist Lester Roloff - Audio Only

R.G. Lee

"Repeating words does not save the soul."

Another apocrypha quote. Only source is Robert Breaker of the Cloud Church.

"I remember when I was born again. It's better for a man not to be born at all than to be born and not be born again. We went to what we called a protracted meeting. I got under conviction as to sin. My mother said to me at the breakfast table, 'Son, you don't look like you slept much last night.' I said, 'No, I didn't.' She said, 'What's the matter?' I said, 'I'm an awful sinner.' Plowing an old white mule that day. And the whites in his eyes didn't testify to his angelic nature at all, nor did his heels. I drove out in the fence corner and took off my old straw hat and I got down on my knees and I said, 'Lord, I want some relief. I'm miserable. If you'll just save me from my sins, I'll try to serve you every day if I live to be 100 years. And God saved me.'" - R.G Lee, This I Remember

Vance Havner

"You can say prayers and never pray. Salvation is not in words, but in Christ."

More apocrypha.

"Well, your background, your temperament, maybe what you were brought up in has a lot to do. Sometimes your nerves have a lot to do with it. But don't let the devil worry you out of that thing. You come to Jesus and say, How did you get saved? You ask him to save you. You trust in him with the faith of a child. The simpler the better." - Vance Havner, If Any Man Thirst

https://www.sermonindex.net/pdf-text/pdf/v/vance-havner--if-any-man-thirst.pdf

Billy Sunday

"Walking an aisle or saying a prayer never saved a man."

False, source is only Breaker.

From Old Time Religion.

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, in your heart and confess him with your mouth and you will be saved. God is good. The plan of salvation is presented to you in two parts. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth. Many of you here probably do Believe. Why don't you confess? Now own up. The truth is that you have a yellow streak. Own up, business men, and business women, and all of you others. Isn't it so? Haven't you got a little saffron? Brave old Elijah ran like a scared deer when he heard old Jezebel had said she would have his head, and he beat it. And he ran to Beersheba and lay down under a juniper tree and cried to the Lord to let him die. The Lord answered his prayer, but not in the way he expected. If he had let him die he would have died with nothing but the wind moaning through the trees as his funeral dirge. But the Lord had something better for Elijah. He had a chariot of fire and it swooped down and carried him into glory without his ever seeing death."

"THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SUNDAY

What does converted mean? It means completely changed. Converted is not synonymous with reformed. Reforms are from without-conversion from within. Conversion is a complete surrender to Jesus. It's a willingness to do what he wants you to do. Unless you have made a complete surrender and are doing his will it will avail you nothing if you've reformed a thousand times and have your name on fifty church records.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, in your heart and confess him with your mouth and you will be saved. He had a chariot of fire and it swooped down and carried him into glory without his ever seeing death.

So he says he has something better for you--salvation if he can get you to see it. You've kept your church membership locked up. You've smiled at a smutty story. When God and the Church were scoffed at you never peeped, and when asked to stand up here you've sneaked out the back way and beat it. You're afraid and God despises a coward--a mutt. You cannot be converted by thinking so and sitting still."

"So you cross the line and God won't issue any extradition papers. Some of you want to cross. If you believe, then say so, and step across. I'll bet there are hundreds that are on the edge of the line and many are standing straddling it. But that won't save you. You believe in your heart--confess him with your mouth. With his heart man believes and with his mouth he confesses. Then confess and receive salvation full, free, perfect and eternal. God will not grant any extradition papers. Get over the old line. A man isn't a soldier because he wears a uniform, or carries a gun, or carries a canteen. He is a soldier when he makes a definite enlistment. All of the others can be bought without enlisting. When a man becomes a soldier he goes out on muster day and takes an oath to defend his country. It's the oath that makes him a soldier. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you an automobile, but public definite enlistment for Christ makes you a Christian.

'Oh,' a woman said to me out in Iowa, 'Mr. Sunday, I don't think I have to confess with my mouth.' I said: 'You're putting up your thought against God's.'

M-o-u-t-h doesn't spell intellect. It spells mouth and you must confess with your mouth. The mouth is the biggest part about most people, anyhow.

What must I do?

Philosophy doesn't answer it. Infidelity doesn't answer it. First, 'believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.' Believe on the Lord. Lord--that's his kingly name. That's the name he reigns under. 'Thou shalt call his name Jesus.' It takes that kind of a confession. Give me a Saviour with a sympathetic eye to watch me so I shall not slander. Give me a Saviour with a strong arm to catch me if I stumble. Give me a Saviour that will hear my slightest moan."

"Major Whittle stood by the grave some time later and saw the same monument. If you go there now you will see something different. The man became rich and today there is a marble monument fifteen feet high and on it this inscription:

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF WILLIE LEE

HE TOOK MY PLACE IN THE LINE

HE DIED FOR ME

Sacred to the memory of Jesus Christ. He took our place on the cross and gave his life that we might live, and go to heaven and reign with him.

'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, confess him with thy mouth, and thou shalt be saved and thy house.'

It is a great salvation that can reach down into the quagmire of filth, pull a young man out and send him out to hunt his mother and fill her days with sunshine. It is a great salvation, for it saves from great sin.

The way to salvation is not Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Vassar or Wellesley. Environment and culture can't put you into heaven without you accept Jesus Christ.

It's great. I want to tell you that the way to heaven is a blood-stained way. No man has ever reached it without Jesus Christ and he never will."

Gipsy Smith

"Repeating prayers does not bring salvation."

Only source is Robert Breaker of the Cloud Church.

"I paid a second visit to Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church, New York, and had again the pleasure of working under my friend Dr. Day. The church seated 2,300 people, and it was crowded every night during the best part of a month. I was incapable of work for a few days by reason of a throat affection.

This visit is always associated in my mind with a certain splendid young fellow whom I encountered there. He was an intelligent and lovable man, popular with everybody, but he was not on the Lord's side. He was too good to be on the other side, but still he was there; and there are many like him. Nobody can tell what the Church loses, and what such men themselves lose, because they do not declare themselves publicly for God and take up their stand boldly.

This young fellow came to many of the services. One day I met him in Broadway.

'Will you be at church to-night?'

'No, I have a long-standing engagement to keep.'

'Well, then, will you pray for me?'

He looked at me aghast, staring hard for a few moments.

'Do you know what you are asking? You are asking a man to pray for you—a man who has not prayed for himself for years!'

'Never mind, will you pray for me to-night?'

'Oh well, you know I would do anything for you, anything I could, but to pray for you—to pray for you!'

'Yes, that is what I want. That is the service I want you to do for me.'

'I wish you would ask me something else. You know, of course, that if I promise to do it, I will.'

'Yes, that is why I am so eager to get you to promise. I know you will fulfil it.'

'But you know, as I say, I have not prayed for years. I should not know what to say.'

'Oh, I will tell you what to say,' and I took out a scrap of paper and wrote:

'O God, bless Gipsy Smith to-night, and help him to preach Thy Gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit, so that sinners may be converted. For Christ's sake.'

Then I said, 'Will you kneel down and say these words for me to-night?'

He stood as still as a rock for a minute or two, and as silent as the grave. Then suddenly gripping my hand, he said passionately, 'I will!' and turning round abruptly, went away.

On the following night, naturally, I kept a sharp look-out for this fellow, and great was my joy when I saw him come into church. He walked straight up to me, with a gracious smile on his fine face.

'You knew what you were up to. You knew what you were doing, you did.'

'Well,' I said, 'did you fulfil your promise?'

'Yes, but when I knelt down to pray for you I felt that I was the meanest man in America. I had neglected my God and Father for years. In the distress of my heart I could not utter the words of the prayer that you wrote for me. I cried, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner,' and He was merciful, and He saved me. And then I prayed for you.'" - Gipsy Smith, his life and work by himself, PDF Pages 278 to 279, actual book pages 258 to 259

Sam Jones

"No sinner was ever saved by mouthing prayers."

Only source is Robert Breaker of the Cloud Church.

"As I look an all merciful God and loving Father in the face tonight, then I look at myself and say, O, God, if thou has destroyed armies and drowned the world, and sent the burning hail upon cities and destroyed them, and caused the earth to burst open and swallow the wicked; I look at all this and then I ask myself the question, if God will drown worlds and burn cities and destroy armies as he has done in the past, then will God let me go unpunished in the future? And the man who says that God will not punish sin, must fly in the face of the record and of the history of this universe.

And, now, the means of turning. What are the means? 'Lord, here I am tonight, a poor sinner. I give up and surrender to the cross. I take the line of duty thou has marked out for me. I give myself to thee from this time on.' Brother, sister, won't you turn tonight?

'Sinners, turn! why will you die? God, your Savior, asks you why?'

Won't you turn tonight and be saved forever? Turn! Turn!" - Samuel P. Porter, Why Will Ye Die? https://www.biblebelievers.com/jones_sam/jones_s08.html

All of the quotes are fake, and the only one that's actually slightly close to real is still not even what Chafer wrote.
