Genesis 35 vs 1

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

Exodus 25: 8&22

8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

Exodus 25

  1. God instructed Jacob to build an altar unto him in Bethel.
  2. Previously, altars have been built for God, but this is an instance where God instructed that an altar be built for him.
  3. An altar is a place of worship. The church represents a perfect altar for God.
  4. If God instructed Jacob to build an altar for him, it means God is happy when a church is being built for his service.
  5. And if God likes an altar, it means you must strive to be at the altar of God and help maintain the altar and not desecrate the altar of God.
