The Lord God will Shine upon us in New Jerusalem

In describing life in New Jerusalem, Revelation 22:5 says:

New Jerusalem“And night will be no more; and they have no need of the light of a lamp and of the light of the sun, for the Lord God will shine upon them.” In this city night is over. The lamp is the man-made light, and the sun is the natural light. All of man’s work and all natural means will no longer be of any use because everything will be visible. Today we may be confused and not see clearly. Even after we have accomplished some service, we may not know where we are, but it will not be so in that day.

John 1:4, speaking of the eternal Word coming in incarnation as a man, says, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” Now He has become our life and He is the light within us. However, we do not always live according to this light.

For us to grow in the Lord is for Him to increase in us. As His life increases, the light of life in us gets brighter. This is gradual. The more we have this light, the more we can walk according to it. New Jerusalem is the goal of our growth. When we reach New Jerusalem the light will be constant and bright and we will live in it all the time.
