The Lord is the Light of New Jerusalem

New JerusalemRevelation 22:1-2 bring forth the river of life and tree of life as our top blessings in New Jerusalem. Verses 22:3-5 present seven more blessings of life in New Jerusalem. These are no curse, the throne of God and the Lamb, and our serving Him in verse 3; seeing His face and having His name in verse 4; and being in His light and reigning in verse 5.

Revelation 22:5a says, “Night shall be no more; and they have no need of the light of a lamp and the light of the sun, for the Lord God shall illumine them.”

In the New Jerusalem God’s redeemed will live in the divine light of the divine life embodied in the redeeming Lamb (Rev. 21:23)….The Lamb as the lamp shines with God as the light to illumine the New Jerusalem.
Being illumined by the Lord God is another aspect of the eternal enjoyment in the New Jerusalem. We will have no need of a lamp, the light made by man, nor of the sun, the light created by God. God Himself in the Lamb will shine upon us, and we will live under His illumination.*

Today we have God in Christ as our light. John 1:4 announces “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” We have this divine light and now our responsibility is to walk in it. “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from every sin” (1 John 1:7).

Walking in the light of life with the fellowship of life is our foretaste of New Jerusalem!
