The Power of our Testimony
For a few years now I have felt moved by the Holy Spirit to work on a project highlighting the testimony of those around me and in my life, once I realized the importance of sharing our testimonies. Not like some of experiences we may have seen growing up in where it’s a braggadocious activity that draws attention to the individual. If you have been a situation where your faith has been challenged and you are literally fighting to ensure your faith is not diminished. If you feel like God is turning things around for everyone else around apart from you. Our testimonies are ways for us to remind ourselves of God’s goodness and faithfulness.
It’s a tool of victory to snatch the attention from the enemy. A tool against his strategy to cause us to focus on the things we are missing, versus focusing on our Lord and Savior who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above what we can think or ask.
So, testimonies are very powerful in the life of a believer. Never feel like you have to shy away from sharing your testimony or feel like it is too little or insignificant. What we may count as insignificant can be something huge for somebody else.

We live in an inexplicable web where each person’s stories and triumph can be the vision and ideal that another person builds their prayer point upon. Each of us are inspired and ignited by what we see in the life of those around us. I would like to believe that is why God has placed community within the hearts of men. We were never meant to do life alone. We learn and glean from each other. From our experiences come lessons that can be pivotal to the destiny and future calling of those around us. When we understand this then we realize that our lives are not our own. When we are tempted to just live anyhow and when we just can’t be bothered to follow God’s specific and destined plans for our lives, we realize that there are other people’s lives connected to ours. There are stories and experiences we share with others that will grant insight to the next steps they needed to define the direction of their lives.
I have had to rely on community and the lessons God has taught those that have gone ahead of me and that has been a huge blessing to me. It would be foolish of me to not consider that God will use my life in the same way. Our God is too intentional and makes it that we each need something from one another. Never shy away from sharing the victories God has won for you. It evokes and confirms the power and authority of Jesus above every situation.
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere
2 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV)
We can only spread the aroma of the knowledge of Christ where we go if we are open to sharing. It’s not always about sharing the good as well. Depending on the audience of course, there are some that are able to handle the situations we may be in where God is still working things out. Yet, they can see God’s goodness and mercy in the midst of an unpalatable condition. Our testimonies are not for us alone.
One verse that I am still trying to unpack and better understand and the motivation behind the Word of our Testimonies project is:
They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.
Revelations 12:11 (NIV)
I wonder what it means that they ‘did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.’ I guess my little understanding of this comes from the pretext. There is a great War between the angels in heaven and the dragon (representing Satan). You’ll need to go read this portion for yourself in order to grasp the context a little better. I suggest reading it in various versions to capture the full essence of the narrative. But basically, this is a statement made by the angels about the inhabitants of the earth. The same earth where the exiled dragon has been sent down to. The commendation is that the people weren’t scared and they understood their stand as conquerors and victors through Christ. They stood on business and did not cower. They didn’t think: well, the dragon was defeated in the heavenlies and now he is here on earth with us. Nope, they still commanded that victory through the words of their mouth.
Sometimes I wonder if half of our battles is lost in the words we speak over our situations and in what we are experiencing.
We are too quick to call things as we see them rather than call those things that be not as though they were. At least as those things are in the Spirit realm. Therefore, to not be afraid of death means knowing that we rise up on occasions where we need to share God’s goodness. This can be such a powerful evangelism tool as well.
Talking about situations that only God’s power could have delivered and saved us from. Things and situations that others walked through and they lost their minds and confidence yet we go through the same and we come out as refined gold. That is the word of our testimony!! Only God could have done that. And he deserves all the glory.
May we not rob our God of His supremacy. So speak up, share your victory stories, share your scars and battle wounds. May the Holy Spirit lead and guide us on the right words to speak, to the right people and at the right time.
