PROTECTING YOUR TREASURE

Memorise: “Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown” (Revelation 3:11)

Read: 1 Samuel 17:34-37

Pastor E. Adeboye

In a night vision, a brother was given something very precious. Everyone who saw the special gadget admired it and wanted to take it. At a point, he realized that if he did not take immediate steps to protect his gift, it could be lost to his admirers. David had just been anointed king in the midst of his brothers.

That was breakthrough for this poor shepherd boy. Suddenly, he was faced with challenges of confronting a lion, and then a bear that tried to attack him. After his victory over both, Satan stirred up Goliath against him.

But, why would all these challenges come to a youth like David? He had what anyone would covet. Breakthrough is a treasure that must be jealously guarded, or else it will be stolen. You would notice that the average house in Mushin (Lagos) has no fence or security guard. It is because they lack choice treasures that appeal to thieves.

But if you go to Victoria Island – an affluent suburb of Lagos, you will see assorted walls, security wire fence, animate and inanimate security measures, etc. The treasures God has given to you shall not be lost to physical or spiritual thieves in Jesus’ Name!

In Numbers 13:25-28, the spies that were sent to the promised land returned with the security report that although the land flowed with milk and honey, the city wall was very high. Obviously, the owners were not ready to lose their treasure to strangers. This tells us that we must not be careless over any precious thing the Lord has given to us.

1 Peter 5:8-9 says the enemy is always on the look out for opportunities to steal what you have. The level of anointing, power, wisdom or grace upon your life must not be trivialized. Hence Revelation 3:11 says if you do not hold tightly to what you have, it may cost you your crown.

How do you defend your breakthrough or blessing? According to James 4:7, you can prevent external enemies from taking what you have by submitting to God. Anything you hold back from Him becomes a target of the devil. Satan cannot steal what you have totally yielded to God. After submitting to God, He releases the strength to enable you take the next step- resist the devil.

Many believers are unable to resist the devil because they have not submitted to God. In addition, obey God’s commands particularly with regards to finance. Pay your tithes and vows. Owe no man. Pray always. Praise God regularly for your breakthrough.

Of all your treasures, salvation is the most precious. Guard it with your life
