Looking for some holiday reading? See if you missed any of these, the top ten posts from Seeking the Kingdom in 2022:

  1. When your life is threatened (Mt 8:23-27)
  2. Abraham’s life: a summary (Gen 12–25)
  3. “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord” (Ex 14:13-15)
  4. Why woe? (Mt 11:20-24)
  5. Jesus the healer (Mt 8:14-17)
  6. Why doesn’t God sort it out? (Mt 13:47-50)
  7. Unconditional forgiveness? (Mt 6:14-15)
  8. An unexpected gift (Mt 26:6-13)
  9. Strike the shepherd (Zech 13:7-9)
  10. What are you living for? (Mt 16:24-26)

All of them had thousands of reads this year. All of them were released in previous years and have grown in popularity. All of them exegete Scripture, mostly from our series on Matthew as the kingdom Gospel.

The Zechariah post grew from the references Jesus made to Zechariah which led us to release a commentary on Zechariah. The Genesis and Exodus posts from earlier years remain popular too. Our Ephesians series didn’t make the cut this year, but may grow in popularity as other posts tend to do.

There are more than 800 posts now. The further I go with the kingdom perspective, the more persuasively it draws me to the heavenly sovereign who reigns in the heavens and is re-establishing his reign over the earth in his anointed: Jesus the Christ, our Lord. Such good news!

Next week we’ll apply that perspective to a Psalm that isn’t quoted in the New Testament, yet powerfully expresses the messianic hope of the restoration of God’s reign: Psalm 145, the last Davidic psalm in the Psalter.

May 2023 be a great year for you as we serve the king who makes a difference.

Do You Feel Accepted or Rejected?

I went to bed, pulled the covers over my head, and had a big ole pity party. Once again, I had been rejected…come in second place…told I wasn’t quite what “they” were looking for. The scarlet letter loomed large. It wasn’t an A like Hester Prynne’s in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book I had read in high school, but a big fat R that I chose to wear when life turned ugly. Read more...

    Sleeping and Waiting
