What Is True Worship Of God ?

What Is True Worship of God ? 

What do you think of first when you hear the word worship ? Most people today immediately think about a worship service in church. Or worship music. And musical instruments and singing. Or a praise band and praise team leading worship.

These are certainly parts of what worship is. But these are small parts compared to the main thing in worship. The main thing about worship is your heart. Is Jesus your First Love, Treasure, and Passion in your heart ? Are you devoted to Him to the point of being willing to be and do whatever Jesus tells you ?

Are you willing to sacrifice all out of love for God, like Jesus did ? 

What is true worship of God ? In this 2 part series we will look at all of the various parts of worship shown in the Bible. 

What Is True Worship Of God In The Bible ?

True worship is a lifestyle of heartfelt expression of love and devotion and passion for God and His son Jesus.

“Therefore I urge you brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.” – Romans 12:1

God’s Word the Bible is full of examples of various forms of true worship of God. Notice that as the more you go down the list worship involves much more than just music and singing songs at church. True worship involves submitting to God, and trusting and following and obeying God. True worship also involves completely offering yourself and your life to God.

Biblical Examples Of True Worship Of God

When you read about worship in the Bible, you will see that there are many various things that worship consists of. As you go down the list you will see that worship is much more about your heart and your relationship with God.

SONGS OF WORSHIP

  • Psalm 100:2b – Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.
  • Psalm 66:4 – All the earth will worship You, And will sing praises to You. They will sing praises to Your name.

WORSHIP MUSIC

  • Psalm 100:1 – Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
  • Psalm 150:1-4 – Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary, praise Him in His mighty expanse, praise Him for His mighty deeds. Praise Him according to His excellent greatness, praise Him with trumpet sound, praise Him with harp and lyre. And Praise Him with timbrel and dancing, praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe.

LIFT UP HANDS

  • Nehemiah 8:6b – Then Ezra blessed the Lord the great God. And all the people answered, ” Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. Then they bowed low and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
  • Psalm 63:4 – So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

GLORIFY GOD

  • Psalm 29:2 – Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name. Worship the Lord in holy array.
  • 1 Chronicles 16:23-25 -Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised. He also is to be feared above all gods.

EXALT GOD

  • Psalm 99:5 – Exalt the LORD our God And worship at His footstool; Holy is He.
  • Deuteronomy 10:17 – For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God.

PRAISE GOD

  • Psalm 22:3 – Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
  • Psalm 8, 19, 23, 46, 95, 100, 150

More Biblical Examples Of True Worship Of God

HONOR GOD

  • I Samuel 2:30 (Place great value on God) – Therefore the Lord God of Israel declares, ‘I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever’. But now the Lord declares, ‘Far be it from Me—for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.

REVERENCE FOR GOD

  • Psalm 95:6 – Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
  • Nehemiah 8:6c – Then Ezra blessed the Lord the great God. And all the people answered, ” Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands; then they bowed low and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
  • Hebrews 5:7 – During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death. And he was heard because of his reverent submission.

BLESS GOD

  • Psalm 100:4b – Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
  • Psalm 31:21 – Blessed be the L ORD, For He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged city.
  • Nehemiah 8:6 – Then Ezra blessed the Lord the great God. And all the people answered, ” Amen, Amen!

GIVE THANKS TO GOD

  • Psalm 100:4 – Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
  • I Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Rejoice always,  pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

REJOICE & ENJOY GOD

  • Philippians 4:4 – Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!
  • I Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Rejoice always,  pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
  • 2 Corinthians 6:10 – … as sorrowful yet always rejoicing.

VERBAL TESTIMONY

  • Luke 1:46-49 – And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave.  Behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. For the Mighty One has done great things for me. And holy is His name.
  • Psalm 66:16-20 – Come and hear, all who fear God, and I will tell of what He has done for my soul. I cried to Him with my mouth, and He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard wickedness in my heart, The Lord will not hear. But certainly God has heard.  He has given heed to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, nor His lovingkindness from me.
