What should I do while waiting
Are you still waiting for God to answer your prayers?
It could be a prayer for your marriage to rekindle its fire or sickness you are longing for healing. For some, it could be a prayer for you to pass an exam or an interview.
Waiting is another test of faith. It would test how long we would have to hope for something unseen.
Besides, when we wait upon the Lord, we can draw closer to Him or go far from Him.
Moreover, while we wait for the Lord to answer our prayers, the devil will also use this opportunity to attack us with lies, anxieties, guilt and worries.
Thus, we must know what measures we should take in our waiting.
What should I do in my waiting
Waiting takes a lot of patience and hope. While you wait upon the Lord, it will test your personality and faith.
Here are some ways we can do while waiting for the Lord.
Seek the Lord
“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him” (Lamentations 3:25).
When you seek the Lord, He will be found. The more you know about God, the more you can learn to trust in Him as you wait on His promises.
In addition, when you read God’s word while you are waiting, you will discover how good He is to those who wait for Him.
If you are waiting for a breakthrough in your career or relationship, seek God and see He fulfills His promises to those who believe in Him.
Keep on praying
“Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
If we never give up on praying for our heart’s desire, it would help us to be utterly dependent on God and wait for Him to move.
Also, it would remind us about the things we could not control.
Furthermore, God makes everything beautiful in His time. As you continue to pray to God, it will help you not to get distracted and make your way to solving your problems.
Praying is not only a way to communicate our needs to God but also a way for God to refine our personalities. The more we pray, God teaches us to wait and hope in Him patiently.
Always be thankful
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:18It is easy for us to complain and get irritated when waiting for something.
Sometimes, we tend to ignore all the good things we are already receiving because we are too focused on what is not yet there.
Thus, when we complain about the things we still do not have or still do not experience, it hinders us from being grateful for the little things we have.
In our waiting, we should still be thankful for everything we have. Being thankful attracts positivity and God’s favor.
Evaluate yourself
“If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you, there is forgiveness, that you may be feared” (Psalms 130:3-4).
It could be possible that there are still things in us that we need to change before God gives us our desires.
As we wait for the Lord, we must examine our hearts. There might be some sins we have not yet confessed and ask for forgiveness.
It could hinder us from experiencing God’s answer. We must be humble and ask for God’s mercy to align our plans with God’s plans and purpose.
Keep going
“From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him” (Isaiah 64:4).
God is working in our waiting, so we should not give up. Sometimes, waiting could stop us from progressing. Continue to do things that could prepare you for your prayers. Do not stop improving yourself, so when God gives you the answer, you are ready for the responsibility it takes.
For instance, if you are praying for God to give you your dream job but do not take action to be ready for it, how could God give you something you are not prepared for?
Do not fret about others
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!” (Psalms 37:7).
While waiting for the Lord, the devil will attack us by trying to make us envy other successful and wealthy people.
He would deceive us that those who do not keep God’s commands could also be successful and sometimes have more than those who fear the Lord.
However, God said we should not get jealous or compare ourselves to them because the time will come when their wealth cannot save them from the punishment of their sins.
Wait in silence
“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him” (Psalms 62:5).
Less talk, fewer mistakes. We may have a lot of complaints as we wait for the Lord.
For instance, as the Israelites wait for them to arrive in God's promised land, they murmur and complain to Moses.
Instead of praying and hoping in God silently, they become so loud about their complaints that even Moses annoyed them.
Waiting in silence means we are confident that God will give us the desire of our hearts and will fulfill His promise of a future for us.
Moreover, waiting in silence means we are peaceful because we know God is faithful to those who hope and wait for Him patiently.
Keep God’s command
“Wait for the LORD and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.” - Psalms 37:34
The Lord appreciates the hard work of those who obey Him as they wait for His answer to their prayers.
God will exalt you and reward your obedience, especially amidst your waiting. He knows it is challenging to keep His commands when waiting for something.
When we keep God’s way while waiting for His answer, we show our respect to Him, especially our love for Him.
In our obedience, we could prove that we long for God’s love, not just our needs.
Let God fight for you
“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent” (Exodus 14:14).
Our enemies sometimes attack us as we wait upon the Lord. They could crush our spirit and make us lose our hope.
Remember that God will defend you from your enemies. You do not have to repay them. Let God do it for you.
Moreover, we can lose and sin when fighting our enemies. Thus, trusting the Lord as He works for us is better.
Let God renew your strength
“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
Waiting could be tiring. We could lose all our strength as we wait for the Lord. If we are tired, we will go weary and afraid that God might not give us what we long for.
However, God promised to renew the strength of those who wait for Him. They would have wings like eagles to go on with life confidently.
Remember that God will renew your strength when you are tired of waiting.
