Why the Church Needs Burnt Stone Leaders, Not Shiny Ones - A Nighttime Prayer

Please Pray:

Dear Triune God,

As the day comes to a close, I bring you what remains.

Not the shiny parts, not the strong moments I wish defined me— but the rubble, the worn edges, the places where life has burned through what was weak and wasteful.

You see it all, and you are not turned away.

Tonight, I remember the story in the Book of Nehemiah—how you used broken stones to rebuild something strong. You did not wait for perfect materials. You worked with what was left.

So here I am.

Where I felt discouraged today, meet me. Where I felt opposition, quiet them with your truth. Where I felt strong, keep me humble. Where I felt weak, remind me that you build with burnt stones.

Remind me that you build with burnt stones. So I can stop my striving.

I release the need to appear put together. I release the pressure to be finished.

You are still shaping me, still refining me, still building something that will stand.

Take what has been burned away in my life and use it. Let it not be wasted. Make it part of something stronger than I could have built before.

And as I rest tonight, rebuild what I cannot fix on my own. Restore what feels broken. Prepare me for the next step, the next yes, the next moment of bravery.

With whatever I have left, I will build with you.
