Running on Empty

Christianity

You have a gauge that tells you it’s time to fill up, and you know the consequences that follow if you ignore that little warning…

Stop.  Do not pass “go”, DO NOT chance it.  Do not do another thing until you put some gas in that tank.

The simple task of refueling changes everything, and you continue on your journey not worrying one lick about whether you will have enough fuel to get you to the next destination.

A simple fix.

Not always so simple when it comes to our spiritual or emotional fuel tank is it?

When I get to the point that I feel like I’m running on empty, my “go-to” is sleep.  You might think that it’s an escape, but in reality, I know that often the reason I am puttering along like I am about to crawl to a stop is directly related to how much time I have taken to rest.

Rest can be physical, emotional or spiritual–and often all three are closely tied together.  Sometimes I just need a long night in my own bed; other times it might be that I am craving a much-needed break from the cares of this world.

Spending time in God’s presence can mean time in The Word, but it might be just time alone with Him while you walk or drive, or even while you soak in a hot bath.
