What is the love of money?

The love of money is the root of all evil. That is just the simple way the bible puts it  in 1 Timothy 6:10.

1 Timothy 6:10

[10]For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. The Good Confession

Love of money is when you:

• Love money over God and His Word
• Love money over fellow human beings
• Make money in dubious ways
• Kill or cheat to make money
• Love money above eternity
• Become selfish with the money you make

Those are some of the ways I can define the love of money. I believe you can understand the reason why the bible says the love of money is the root of all evil.

What the bible says about the love of money: The Nigerian situation

Anytime you want to know whether Nigeria is for sale to the highest bidder or not, wait for the time of a general election. Delegates or whatever they are called are ready to sell their conscience for money. The electorates are ready to sell their votes for money.

Politicians who are very skilled in the business of buying Nigeria will be ready to splash the cash. They will even increase the bid and increase it until they win.

What the bible says about the love of money: Voting for temporary benefits

The delegates and the electorates enjoy the temporary benefits of the evil money they receive. They are not bothered about the eternal consequences.

Any human who is not conscious of the eternal consequences of his or her actions is already a living corpse!

What God says about the love of money: Money will fail

What you don’t know is this: if you are a foolish delegate or electorate who raises money above godliness, money can fail and will always fail you if you make it your leader. Read the experience of the Egyptians during Joseph’s era as the Governor of Egypt:

Genesis 47:15
[15]So when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For the money has failed.”

They said money has failed. Any evil money you receive today to sell your conscience and your country will fail you. Any money you make dubiously will fail you.

Love of money in your heart

You can’t have the love of money in your heart and have the love of God in your heart at the same time.

But you need God in your heart to survive on this complex earth and to ensure your eternity is safe. Man is designed to survive only with God and not money.

The reason why Jesus said without Him no one can do anything (John 15:5b). This is a simple and direct truth you have failed to embrace.

This is the reason why you sell your conscience to evil politicians for money. The reason why you steal money in your office. The reason why you kill to have money. The reason why you cheat in your business to make profits.

Love of money: Money is not a good leader

Money is never designed to lead you. You are created in the image of God almighty. Can you imagine money leading and giving orders to God? Impossible!

The more reason why you should never allow money or material things to lead you. You are God’s representative on the earth. He is counting on you to show forth His glory.

Evil money can hunt you

Some people don’t know that every money you gained by trickery or by dishonesty will come around to hunt you. It will because the bible says that as long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest shall not cease (Genesis 8:22).

God does not naturally intervene in the process of seeding and harvesting. It’s a principle He used to create the earth.

The Nigerian situation

Nigeria, my country, is at a point where we need to reevaluate ourselves individually and see how we can contribute meaningfully to the survival of this country where evil politicians have turned into their personal property.

Well, they won’t have succeeded if we had not supported them to achieve their evil aims. All because of our evil appetite for evil money.

Only foolish people sell something as precious as their conscience and eternity because of the temporary benefits that evil money brings to them.

As I end this, you should remember that money fails. Vote for God. Vote for Christ.
