Fruit Of The Spirit Affirmations— Gentleness

Continuing onward in our look at each of the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how affirming them cultivates intentional mindfulness within us.

Affirmations are a statement intended to provide encouragement, emotional support, or motivation,

In Philippians 4:8, Paul gives us instructions on what we should think or meditate about.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Philippians 4:8— NLT

According to Wikipedia, In common language usage, “fruit” usually means the seed-associated fleshy structures (or produce) of plants that typically are sweet or sour and edible. The fruits of the Spirit are fine points that should naturally grow out of the proceedings of the Holy Spirit in our life.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, Goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23— NLT

Fruits of the Spirit affirmations are based upon Scripture to inspire us to cultivate the fruits of the Spirit in our daily lives. The word “Spirit” in these affirmations will be capitalized because these are fruits given to us by the Holy Spirit, not ourselves.

The fruits of the Spirit are:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-control

Gentleness

A burly man sat during the children’s church Christmas performance. Tattoos covered his face, neck and arms. He crossed his arms crossed his chest.

As the performance began, the look on his face changed. His hardened face softened, at times a stray tear could be seen. The last little performers came on stage. Intent listening to their sweet voices as they sang their song.

As they sang their last note, a little boy broke from the group of singers and quickly ran to the man. The man gently scooped up his little boy and kissed him on his forehead.

The gentleness the Holy Spirit gives us is not wavering. It’s a robust and coordinated gentleness woven with humility and temperate behavior. Our words and actions matter. We can speak words that heal or hurt and act in ways that hurt or help.

Here are affirmations and verses about gentleness to encourage you to grow in power and the Spirit of gentleness.

Attitude of Gentleness

I choose gentle words to reflect my gentle attitude. The emotion I show in my words is the first window someone may look through to see Jesus in me. So, I choose to speak gentle words.

A tender answer turns away rage, but a prickly reply spikes anger.

Proverbs 15:1—VOICE

Heavenly Gentleness

I choose to apply a pearl of heavenly wisdom to my situations. I know the Spirit has given me gentleness, and I choose to use it during difficult situations.

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” James 3:17, NIV

James 3:17—NIV

Emotional Gentleness

I choose to look the other way. And I choose to respond in an emotional gentleness using Christ as my example.

Now I, Paul, urge you by the gentleness and graciousness of Christ—I who am meek [so they say] when with you face to face, but bold [outspoken and fearless] toward you when absent!

2 Corinthians 10:1—AMP
