Seat of Authority

Paul spoke in Ephesians 2 about the grace of God which we have attained through faith. He described us as being dead to sin and the lifestyle which we once lived according to the world. This was when we followed the Prince of the power of the air and the spirit that is at work in sinners. This is a lifestyle which we all once lived in the flesh and did what felt good to satisfy ourselves. Despite our sins and shortcoming, God was merciful and demonstrated great love towards us. “even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ, by grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:5). Through this salvation, we have been raised to sit in heavenly places with Christ Jesus.

Heavenly places relates to a realm or a sphere of influence. This realm is the kingdom of God, as we enjoy the privileges of heaven and experience the atmosphere of the kingdom. As joint heirs with Jesus Christ who have been adopted into the family of God, we share in this eternal inheritance. We should experience the atmosphere of heaven in our lives as believers. “buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead” (Colossians 2:12). Paul also said in Ephesians 1, that we have been blessed by God, with all spiritual blessings in heavenly realms. Spiritual blessings is life in abundance, joy, peace, love, hope, grace and all of the good promises of God.

Being seated with Christ also creates in us a kingdom mindset to know that we are kings and priests. “and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (Revelation 1:6). Christ did this by paying for our sins with his blood and transforming us into his image. God appointed Jesus as heir over all things and through whom he made the world. “who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3).

All things are under the feet of Jesus Christ as they are under our feet. David announced the reign of Jesus as the Messiah when he said; “The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”” (Psalms 110:1). All things are under our feet including sin, sickness and disease. Our seat of authority positions us with influence, power and privilege as we share in royalty. No one who comes from royalty lives without the privileges associated with that kingdom, unless they have abdicated their position. We are created to rule and reign over the affairs of this earth and kingdom citizens are called to have influence. “far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come” (Ephesians 1:21).
