Exodus 23 vs 13

And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

Exodus 23:13 WEB - "Be careful to do all things that I have said to

  1. Make no mention of the names of other gods.
  2. We serve a God who is jealous.
  3. If you worship, serve, and accept God as your Lord and saviour, you should have no business with other gods.
  4. Most of us still partake in our family’s traditional festival.
  5. You should be an uncompromised Christian. Do not negotiate with your salvation.
  6. This is one of the verses that made me change my surname about 20 years ago.
  7. When I discovered my surname glorified an idol, I took the bold step and changed my surname.
  8. You should not have anything to do with a name that glorifies idols.
  9. My surname used to be a name that glorified the Ifa idol.
  10. As a Christian, I wasn’t comfortable bearing a name that glorified idol, and I changed it from ‘FALOBI’ meaning ‘Ifa begotten this’s, to ‘BABALOBI’ meaning ‘Father begotten this’.
  11. Do not be emotionally attached to a name that doesn’t glorify God.
  12. Check your name. However, there are limitations as a female because it might be difficult to change your name while still single. Changing your husband’s name might be difficult for married women.
  13. It was easier for me because I was a male. Although, I told my parents about it, and they didn’t have any objection to it.
  14. I pray you shall cut off every form of idolatry in your lineage in Jesus’ name. Amen
