Exodus 23 vs 13
And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
- Make no mention of the names of other gods.
- We serve a God who is jealous.
- If you worship, serve, and accept God as your Lord and saviour, you should have no business with other gods.
- Most of us still partake in our family’s traditional festival.
- You should be an uncompromised Christian. Do not negotiate with your salvation.
- This is one of the verses that made me change my surname about 20 years ago.
- When I discovered my surname glorified an idol, I took the bold step and changed my surname.
- You should not have anything to do with a name that glorifies idols.
- My surname used to be a name that glorified the Ifa idol.
- As a Christian, I wasn’t comfortable bearing a name that glorified idol, and I changed it from ‘FALOBI’ meaning ‘Ifa begotten this’s, to ‘BABALOBI’ meaning ‘Father begotten this’.
- Do not be emotionally attached to a name that doesn’t glorify God.
- Check your name. However, there are limitations as a female because it might be difficult to change your name while still single. Changing your husband’s name might be difficult for married women.
- It was easier for me because I was a male. Although, I told my parents about it, and they didn’t have any objection to it.
- I pray you shall cut off every form of idolatry in your lineage in Jesus’ name. Amen
