The Growing Christian Community.

Here, we use storytelling, short letters and the medium of questions and answers, to share our stories as growing Christians: our strengths, challenges, weaknesses, wins, struggles.

We do these to encourage each other, portray true transparent growth and to constantly remind ourselves of the saving and healing grace in Christ.

β€œYOU WILL BE TOUCHED BY MY STORY,” says a member of The Growing Christian Community.

My name is Joshua Okposo

I am one of the few people who even though right from childhood I have been good at various things I do, from winning scholarships and awards… Promoted for excellence amongst others, people still naturally attempt to corner me and make me feel I wasn’t doing well.

…and when they do so, I give them the floor NOT because I am clueless about what they do but because I am too busy working on becoming a better person.

I am not just talking about strangers, even my family did the same to me. I won’t talk about the details. I forgave them a long time ago because I don’t hold a grudge as it doesn’t always end well when I do so.

Sometimes I wonder why people are just full of envy when I do not compete with anyone.

Most times when others are partying, I will be burning candles or using the lantern to read books, listening to cassettes with radios, taking down notes and It ended up affecting my eyes at a point but thank God for restoration.

As a musician both my peers and those ahead always double-cross me because they are trying to hide GIGs and all from me.

Was I that much of a threat?

I don’t understand, but I didn’t care neither was I struggling to be relevant.

But the teenager β€œJoshua Okposo” rather kept practicing in his closet… I kept being better and good at what I do.

That’s how I started teaching the Piano while others were battling to play for the top in town, well they commanded respect but it never bothered me at least a big artiste still recognized me when it was time and I served for a while.

Somehow many tried to make me look like I wasn’t good enough.

I remember when I made my first attempt to break out of transpose in 2009, I was hugely criticized … I didn’t give up.

I also eventually started coding in 2010/2011 using a Nokia 2690 and a few cafe sessions to backup, still resilient, and never gave up. I met many impostors on the way attempting to make me feel like I wasn’t doing good enough but I just didn’t care… I will just sit by the computer and do the Job.

I am not here to announce how God has greatly compensated me and How He’s still in the business of moving me higher, but I am here to encourage you not to worry much about being deserted.

Everything that has happened to me, the neglect the rejection, and all … I turned all to my favor.

I used it to arm myself…

My story is similar to Joseph’s or David’s in the bible.

I have seen wickedness first-hand.

However, the time I am being deserted & betrayed, I use it all to my advantage.

I often tell people that challenges make you stronger.

Successful men who made it did so as a result of their respective challenges encountered and most times it happens in the wilderness, where no one seemed to be coming for rescue.

I have also been deserted in a few relationships because they thought they were leaving me to my fate, but today I smile.

It hasn’t ended though I mean the double-crossing and all, humans will be humans but I still don’t care… I am only assuring myself that I won’t be where I used to be the next time you see me.

I will keep maintaining a humble personality but growing constantly.

Nothing will jeopardize my focus.

Most of those people who were looking down on me are nowhere to be found close to me today… And I am happily not even competing with anyone

While I encourage you with my story, I also implore you not to look down on anybody…

You don’t know tomorrow

The same guy or girl you rejected yesterday could be your lifesaver.

It only takes a second for God to turn someone’s life around.

And understand that nothing lasts forever, we will all depart from this earth someday. So stay humble.
