Are you trusting in your own strength instead of God’s power?

Good day beautiful people

I hope that you’re all well this Wednesday evening? Today I want to discuss about the importance of depending upon God…For the longest time I never realised that not trusting in God, and allowing worry to control my life was a sin. In addition to worry I’ve also struggled with not waiting upon God’s timing, which is also an act of disobedience.

Philippians 4:6 ~ Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Jeremiah 2:13-19 ~ “For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all! “Why has Israel become a slave? Why has he been carried away as plunder? Strong lions have roared against him, and the land has been destroyed. The towns are now in ruins, and no one lives in them anymore. Egyptians, marching from their cities of Memphis and Tahpanhes, have destroyed Israel’s glory and power. And you have brought this upon yourselves by rebelling against the Lord your God, even though he was leading you on the way! “What have you gained by your alliances with Egypt and your covenants with Assyria? What good to you are the streams of the Nile or the waters of the Euphrates River? Your wickedness will bring its own punishment. Your turning from me will shame you. You will see what an evil, bitter thing it is to abandon the Lord your God and not to fear him. I, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!”

A biblical overview of an act of disobedience

Saul: King Saul was too impatient to wait for Samuel the seer to come and offer a sacrifice to The Lord. As a non-Levite he decided to carry out the duty of a priest, which was forbidden by God (1 Samuel 13:8-14).

^^^Many of us could save ourselves a lot of time and energy if we’d simply practice the art of learning to wait upon God well. And in learning to do so, we will be able to evade avoidable heartache and pain.

The truth is God WANTS us to depend upon Him. Personally I don’t like to disturb/bother people, so if I intend on carrying out a task, I ensure that I have the capacity to do so. And I believe that this viewpoint/mindset has slowly filtered into my spiritual life, negatively impacting my relationship with God.

The truth is that God will often ask us to carry out projects which are outside of our comfort zone. And the whole point is for HIM to get the glory, because as believers we shouldn’t be operating in our own strength, but in the strength/power of the Holy Spirit! God will achieve things ‘bigger’ than us, through us. We ought to be empty vessels who surrender to His will and to His ways.

(Moses was hesitant to lead the nation of Israel out of Egypt, due to his belief that he wasn’t a good speaker because of his stutter. But God had to remind him that He is the one who makes the mouth speak, and with His power Moses could do great things [Exodus 4:10-14]).

Scriptures which remind us to depend on God.

Isaiah 48:2 ~ “even though you call yourself the holy city and talk about depending on the God of Israel, whose name is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

^^^ We shouldn’t just ‘talk’ about depending upon God, but we must practically live a life of total dependency.

Isaiah 43:22 ~ “But, dear family of Jacob, you refuse to ask for my help. You have grown tired of me, O Israel!”

^^^ Don’t ever get tired of asking God for help!

Isaiah 30:18 ~ “So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.”

Isaiah 31:1 ~ “What sorrow awaits those who look to Egypt for help, trusting their horses, chariots, and charioteers and depending on the strength of human armies instead of looking to the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.”

Isaiah 26:3 ~ “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”

Have a blessed week beautiful people, and I pray that fear will not hold you back from walking through the open doors which God places before your path.
