Bible Verses to Memorize to Remember your Worth
Memorizing scripture is critical to success as a believer. The Word tells us to meditate on the Word day and night (Joshua 1:8). But in a busy world, it's easy to do quite the opposite. With so many outside voices, our thought lives can quickly drift to the series we are binging on Netflix, the to-dos of the day, or replaying the last conversation we had.
A few weeks ago, I got stuck in my head over a conversation I had had. During the conversation, a friend had said something about me that she didn't mean to be hurtful, but felt kind of like a little dig at my identity.
For weeks, I found myself repeating that conversation and starting to wonder if there was truth in what she had said.
Eventually, I took the time to get into God's Word and it was clear that what God said about me was completely opposite.
I spent way too much time repeating a flippant comment in my head, giving it space and attention it didn't deserve, and it was because I didn't remember the opposite truth that was readily available for me in the Word of God.
Memorizing scripture allows us to have those tools for the days when we need them. When an off-handed comment starts to swirl in our minds and the enemy tries to let it take root, we get to pull out the things God says about us and let those take up space instead.
But to do this, we have to know them. There are SO many incredible scriptures that God has graciously given us, but
here are a few of mine that replace some lies you might be believing about your identity.
The lie: I am no one's first choice
The Truth: "…your God, chose you out of all the people on Earth for himself as a cherished, personal treasure." Deuteronomy 7:6 MSG
The Lie: I am overlooked
The Truth: “What’s the price of two or three pet canaries? Some loose change, right? But God never overlooks a single one. And he pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head!" Luke 12:6-7 MSG
The Lie: This one aspect of my life is unredeemable
The Truth: "…we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good." Romans 8:28 MSG
The Lie: I have to work for grace
The Truth: "Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish!" Ephesians 2:9
The Lie: I have to depend on myself
The Truth: "Those who fear God get God’s attention; they can depend on his strength." Psalm 147:11
