Come Forward on a New & Living Way

We move onward in our New Testament review of what is new. All that is new points to the new creation with New Jerusalem. Hebrews 10:20 tells us that Jesus “initiated for us as a new and living way through the veil” into the holy of holies.

New JerusalemAs a background to this new and living way, Hebrews 9:7-8 says that the way to the holy of holies (or the holiest place) was not open in Old Testament times and that the high priest went therein only once a year.

Before verse 20, Hebrews 10 speaks of the one offering of Christ on the cross which sanctifies us, removes our sins, and opens the way for God to write His laws within us. Verse 18 declares “where forgiveness of these is, there is no longer an offering for sin.”

Verse 19 goes on, “Having therefore, brothers, boldness for entering the Holy of Holies in the blood of Jesus.” Because Christ has opened the way and is now our heavenly High Priest (10:20-21), “Let us come forward to the Holy of Holies with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (10:22).

To come forward to the holy of holies is to come to the throne of grace where we may “receive mercy and find grace for timely help” (Heb. 4:16). This is the throne of God and the Lamb which is the source of the river of water of life in New Jerusalem.

Sehnsucht in the Blue Ridge Mountains — Nicole O'Meara

Sehnsucht is hard to put into words, as can be seen in my painfully limited ability to describe what I felt at a vista in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some call it joy. Some called it wistful longing for something you can’t explain. It has been called melancholy and nostalgia. It is all of that, and mo
