Dear Sister Disciple,
The heart of Christianity is not so much that we should be ready when He comes, but that we should place our relationship with Him above all.
If He has to disrupt our peace to get our attention, then He will.
Reading Plan: Luke 12:49-53 Not Peace, but Division
Every year, at Christmas time, we sing songs of “Peace on earth. Goodwill to men.” Yet, look around you; warring factions still kill to get their way. The enemy of the soul quickly insights a riot because we believe his arsenal of lies.
The Word
Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. Luke 12:51
The closer to Judgment Day, the greater we justify what we do and stand on our principles. Pride is the fuel of rebellion, and lies are the weapon of the enemy.
There is no victory in the rebel yell.
Jesus would face terrible violence at the hand of a hateful crowd. He met such pain because there is a real war against our souls.
But there’s peace because He rose victorious.
The Word
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
Fire, in Jewish thought, almost always is a symbol of judgment. On that great and dreadful day of accountability, there will be no peace, only division. Faithful wives separated from unfaithful husbands, children separated from parents, and friends separated from friends.
Jesus did not mince words here. A house divided against itself will not stand.
Jesus said, “Do you think I came to give peace on the earth?” I want to say He did, but He didn’t. So, even as Miss America wishes for peace, we know it is not so.
The enemies of the Lord will never find peace.
How Now Should We Live?
Reconcile yourself to Christ and let the Prince of Peace give you the peace that passes all understanding.
The Word
For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all; therefore all have died; and He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sins died and was raised… Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 and 17-18
