Endeavor to Persevere!

During
the days of the great California gold rush, two brothers decided to sell all
they had and search for gold.  In one
small strip of land they discovered gold, so they bought all the surrounding
land and built a mine to get as much of the gold as possible.

Soon, there was no more gold to be found.  Discouraged, the brothers sold all the
equipment and the rights to the land for a few hundred dollars.  The new owner told his engineer to continue
digging in the same spot where the brothers had first found gold. Sure enough,
just a few feet deeper where the brothers had given up their search, they found
more gold. If only the brothers had persevered, and kept on digging, they would
have been wealthy beyond their wildest dreams.

In the Christian life, we too can grow discouraged and give up too
quickly.  Think about this.  William Carey worked and prayed for seven
years in India before he baptized the first believer.  Today, he is remembered as the “father
of missions.” Adoniram Judson worked for seven years in Burma before he
won his first soul for God.

I know how difficult it is to keep going when you don’t always see results, but
don’t give up. Keep on doing what God
has called you to do.  Be encouraged by
God’s Word where it says, “Let us
not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest
if we do not give up.”
(Galatians 6:9)

Don’t give up like the gold miners in California who became discouraged by
their lack of progress.  Keep watering
the ground where you planted God’s seed, and at the proper time you too will
reap a harvest if you persevere.  There
will be a harvest. There will be fruit, and growth in His time.

The Almighty God has
declared, “As the rain and the
snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread
for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to
me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for
which I sent it.
(Isaiah 55:11)
