Five-Minute Fridays – Garden

Isaiah-58-11

To tend a garden – to look after it. That means work. Work is satisfying if we have the right attitude. I know my front garden back in Canada is covered with snow. All my perennials are warm and waiting to come out in the spring.

One of the first things we do when we return is to clean up the debris from winter; to chop dead branches (as soon as we see new life); to work the soil; to buy other flowers to fill the spaces. Each year I have been adding perennials so my work is less.

One year we noticed that we had not spent the time necessary to have a lovely garden and it had become overgrown. What a mess. Now that was a lot of work. But it looked lovely once we were done.

In my life I want to tend my soul. I  work at keeping it pure. I make choices and hope they are based on what the Holy Spirit is telling me. I pray to find out what weeds are lurking inside so I can pull them out.

God says He will help me tend my soul. I am grateful for that.

The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail (Isaiah 58:11, NIV).

Prayer:

Lord, help me to want to work at both my physical garden and my spiritual one. It is a choice I make but I need Your input, strength, wisdom and guidance. I pray in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.
