Today we begin a series from the book God’s New Testament Economy by Witness Lee*. This book is composed from messages given by brother Lee in 1984. This series will not present the whole book but will focus on the last 19 chapters about New Jerusalem.

New JerusalemThe term “economy” comes from the Greek New Testament word οικονομία (oikonomia) meaning household administration. God’s economy is His plan by which He manages His divine household to reach His eternal goal.

The main verses regarding the economy of God are Ephesians 1:10; 3:9, and 1 Timothy 1:4. A related word is “stewardship” (oikonomos), the responsibility given to us for carrying out His economy. Key verses on this are 1 Corinthians 9:17 and Colossians 1:25 referring to Paul and 1 Peter 4:10 referring to all of us.

A fuller definition of “economy” from the book’s forward is:

God’s economy (1 Tim. 1:4), is God’s household administration, His household management, His plan to distribute or dispense Himself into His chosen, redeemed, and regenerated people as their life and everything to produce a unique thing in the universe, the Body of Christ, which is His corporate expression as the golden lampstands in this age and ultimately as the New Jerusalem for eternity.**

New Jerusalem is the concluding revelation in the Bible and is the consummation of God’s economy. May the Lord show us more of what He desires to do and is doing in this age to bring us onward to New Jerusalem.
