For those who are like me, single, or maybe you are married and childless, here’s Good News: God gave us a promise of descendants – as countless as the stars in the sky!
5 Then taking him outside, he said, ‘Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can. Just so will your descendants be,’ he told him.
6 Abram put his faith in Yahweh and this was reckoned to him as uprightness.
7 He then said to him, ‘I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldaeans to give you this country as your possession.’
8 ‘Lord Yahweh,’ Abram replied, ‘how can I know that I shall possess it?’
9 He said to him, ‘Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old she-goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove and a young pigeon.’
10 He brought him all these, split the animals down the middle and placed each half opposite the other; but the birds he did not divide.
11 And whenever birds of prey swooped down on the carcases, Abram drove them off.
12 Now, as the sun was on the point of setting, a trance fell on Abram, and a deep dark dread descended on him.
17 When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passing between the animals’ pieces.
18 That day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram in these terms: ‘To your descendants I give this country, from the River of Egypt to the Great River, the River Euphrates,
God’s Promise of Many Descendants
When God gave this promise of many descendants to Abraham, he was married to Sarah and is well on in years.
They are childless.
But God, who called Abraham, gave him a seemingly impossible promise and gave him a visual representation at the same time for good measure:
“Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can. Just so,” he added, “shall your descendants be.”
Just think.
Abraham was old and childless, yet God promised him descendants, the number of which are like the stars in the sky: countless!
God even challenged him: count the stars, if you can.
When God makes a promise to us, you’ll know it’s God because often what He promises seem to be too good, too great, or too impossible to be true.
Check out, for instance, the promise of the tithe in Malachi 3:10.
Bring all the tithes (the tenth) into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you [so great] a blessing until there is no more room to receive it.
Can you believe that?
If we give the 10% of all our income, allowance, or pension or whatever we receive, God will open the windows of heaven, “floodgates” in other translations, and pour us out a blessing so great that there will not be enough room to receive it.
Blessing: Abundance, prosperity. Providence, protection, peace, divine presence…
…so great, there is not enough room to receive it!
What a visual! Just like the night sky with countless stars.
Big promises from a big God.
An act of faith
Abraham was old and childless. Sarah, his wife, was old too.
But God promised him descendants so many just like the stars in the sky!
What do you think must he be thinking then?
No way! Impossible! How can it be? How can an old man like me have so many descendants? How can Sarah, when she’s already past the child-bearing age?!
Oh but you’re wrong.
Abram put his faith in the LORD, who credited it to him as an act of righteousness.
Abraham believed. Without question.
He believed in the promise, no matter how seemingly impossible, because of the One who made the promise.
Abram put his faith in the LORD.
And you know what happened?
God credited it to him as righteousness.
He truly became the Father of many nations, not just of Israel, but of all the people of God through Jesus Christ, descended from Abraham.
God promised. God delivered.
And because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever – God is still the same today.
God promises. God delivers.
My own act of faith
Yesterday was the baptism of the newest addition to our family, my nephew Joe David.
His father, my brother, invited all our cousins and they came with their whole family. We went to a resort after to celebrate.
It was a whole big family reunion. I think it was our very first.
It was so beautiful to see the children interact for the first time, playing around in the pool, teens and kids alike.
I’m the only one who’s single with no descendants to boast of.
I wasn’t sad or envious though.
Why?
Because, long ago, God gave me this exact verse as a promise.
The promise of many descendants.
Now I don’t know if they’re physical or spiritual descendants like Paul:
Keep on imitating me, my brothers and sisters. Pay attention to those who follow the right example that we have set for you. Philippians 3:17 GNBDK
Paul was single all his life. But all those whom he had led to Christ became his spiritual children, he became a father to them, nurturing them with the teachings of Christ.
I trust God to give me descendants as he said.
And so that gave me the confidence to claim 1000 to 1 billion subs and customers, SpeakChrist Angels, who have been blessed by my body of work, and dedicated to blessing others by sharing my work of inspiration everywhere.
So whether I get spiritual or physical descendants, it doesn’t matter to me.
I trust God who made the promise of many descendants.

Get His will regarding your situation.
Regardless, you’ll find having God in your life is more than enough.
All else, like many descendants and prosperity, are just added bonuses.

- Seek His will for your life
- Trust God to work out His will in your life
Dear Lord,
Thank you for your promise of many descendants. I turn to You and entrust my life to You. Let Your perfect will be done in me, and use me to bless many others. In Jesus’ Name.
