God’s Wisdom Displayed by His Life and Riches in Man

God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.” In contrast, all the plants and animals were created according to their own kind.

God created man in His own image and then put man in the garden of Eden that man could take in the tree of life (a picture of God as the eternal life). In this way God would gain a living expression of Himself through man. Man failed, but God came in Christ to redeem us and to renew the supply of life to us.

Ephesians 2:4-5 declares that “God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in offenses, made us alive together with Christ.” Then in 3:8 Paul tells us, “To me, less than the least of all saints, was this grace given to announce to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ as the gospel.”

The goal of Paul’s announcing was to impart the unsearchable riches of Christ into us to be displayed through us corporately as the universal church. Verse 3:10, “that now to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenlies the multifarious wisdom of God might be made known through the New Jerusalemchurch.”

This verse is the basis of the next part of the hymn* we are considering.
Thy wisdom thru Thy Church is known
—–By principalities,
Thru us Thy wisdom manifold
—–Shown in the heavenlies.

God desires to manifest His wisdom now. It will certainly be manifested more in the coming age and fully in New Jerusalem as the ultimate corporate expression of God in humanity.
