How to Be Modest in Today's Immodest Culture

“Do not let your adornment be merely outward . . . rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:3–4 NKJV).

My sweet friends, last week we talked about modesty and how beautiful it is to honor God with your body.

We’re living in a time where everything seems to scream, “Less is more!” In today’s world, it feels like everyone is chasing likes or followers. But, my dearest ones, you’re not made for the world’s approval—you’re made for God’s. Remember, modesty isn’t just a cute idea; it’s a choice to honor God with every outfit.

So, how do we achieve modesty in the day of OnlyFans?

How to Be Modest in Today’s Culture

First, we have to guard our eyes, minds, and hearts. The world is loud—just scroll through your phone, and it’s all teeny-tiny tube tops, filters, and those “hey, look at me!” vibes. When you see it, it’s so easy to start thinking that getting attention makes you valuable. But you are so much more than the flavor-of-the-month trend!

So my friends, be careful what you let in. If a show, song, or influencer makes you feel like you need to show more skin to be enough, hit pause or—better yet—delete. Psalm 101:3 says to set no worthless thing before your eyes. Surround yourself with things that lift your heart toward God, not drag it into the world’s noise.

Second, raid that closet like it’s a treasure hunt! Stand in front of the mirror and get really honest. Bend, stretch, sit, reach, twirl, lean over. If anything’s peeking out that’s meant for your husband’s eyes only (or future husband, single ones!), it’s time to say, “Love you, but you’re not making the cut.” I know it might be that favorite bikini or that super cute crop top, but your promise to be modest, pure, and all about God’s glory? That’s worth way more than any trend.

Check every angle—front, back, sides, all of it. Ask yourself, “What’s going to catch eyes when I wear this? Where’s the attention going?” If the answer is your cleavage or way too much leg, it’s probably not shouting, “I love Jesus!”

Then, get honest with yourself and ask the big questions: Why do I want to wear this? Why do I love this style? Is it because it makes me feel confident in who God made me? Or am I chasing some social media trend, trying to fit in, or hoping for a “you’re so hot” DM? Be honest, because motives matter. I’ve had to check myself sometimes, asking, “Cathe, are you wearing this to glorify God or to keep up with the crowd?

Your heart’s the starting point, and modesty flows from a desire to please Him, not the algorithm. Guard your heart, check your motives, and step out there with a smile that radiates Jesus. You don’t need to bare it all to shine, sweet friends. Your beauty is in your faith, your joy, and the way you reflect Him.

You’ve got this! I’m cheering you on, praying for each and every one of you to rock that cool and modest vibe with confidence. Let’s make this summer about His glory!
