Incorruption, Immortality, Victory

New JerusalemThe prior post is about the redemption of our physical body when the Lord Jesus returns in visible glory. His glorious return will lead to New Jerusalem “coming down out of heaven from God,” “having the glory of God” (Rev. 21:2, 11).

The last part of 1 Corinthians 15 speaks about the change when our body is redeemed. Verse 50 says that flesh and blood, corruption, cannot inherit the kingdom of God, which is incorruptible. Then verses 51 and 52 promise “we will all be changed.” Verse 53 describes the change: “this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”

At present our body of flesh is corruptible, even corrupted, and mortal, dying. But we will put on incorruption and immortality. As a result of this change, we will match the nature of New Jerusalem. Verse 54 describes this change as “Death has been swallowed up unto victory.” This is a quote of Isaiah 25:8.

Verse 57 proclaims, “thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” We cooperate by turning our hearts to Hm and He gives us victory over death, corruption, and mortality to bring us into New Jerusalem.
