"It's All His Fault!" - A Nighttime Prayer

“Better is the end of a thing than its beginning; the patient in spirit are better than the proud in spirit.” – Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NRSVUE)

Please Pray:

God, you are the only perfect Father there is. That doesn’t stop us from expecting perfection in our human fathers. We’ve given up the practice of learning to accommodate human imperfections and have abandoned even the pretense of accommodating them. We live in times where influencer dads give us endless images of perfect fathers to contrast with the ordinary, imperfect dads who live in our own homes. And still, as these imperfections grate on us, you tell us that the end of things is better than the beginning. Give us patience for our imperfect human fathers as they move, slowly and lurchingly, toward the ends you have purposed for their lives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Carlene Hill Byron

Carlene started writing professionally when she was 20 years old and has finally agreed with God that she’s a writer, not just a “hack for hire.” She has worked as a journalist, a ghostwriter, a grant writer, the editor of New England Church Life and The New England Christian, a marketing project manager, and a fundraiser for nonprofit organizations. Her award-winning marketing communications describe traffic signal systems, roads, bridges, and water treatment plants. She’s written about Australian opals, Indian wedding wear, North American hockey memorabilia, and how to repair antique steam-powered farm equipment. She’s curious enough to explore almost anything, and grateful that wherever she goes, God is already there. She looks across woods and a marsh from her writing desk in small town Maine, just a few miles from her family’s third-generation wild blueberry farm.
