Lester Roloff preaching the sinner's prayer in the Synoptic Gospels compilation

THANK YOU TO FAMILY ALTAR PROGRAM.

Lester Roloff (and so do I) taught this.

A person's faith doesn't save them (which Roloff talks about numerous times).

A person's prayer doesn't save them.

What saves them is Jesus Christ, and his death, burial, and resurrection.

However, that is received through a person believing and praying to God.

Like Roloff said in the first compilation, faith is the pipe to pass the oil

through. (33:17)

The oil has to pass through the faith pipe and then the mouth pipe.

This compilation exists to make sure that people always understand that Roloff

taught the first pipe (faith) and the second pipe (the mouth).

If Lester Roloff is talking about

*Giving your heart to Jesus (see last video at 6:13)

*Kneeling in an altar call (see last video at 5:17)

Those are to be understood as apart of both pipes.

She's Not Dead

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

And so he arose and followed him. Now then, this is where the opposition's going

to break out. And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold,

many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. And

when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, "Why eateth your Master

with publicans and sinners?" Why does he do that? Why did he go home with

Matthew? Why did he do that? He's a publican, he's a sinner.

But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, "They that be whole need not a

physician, but they that are sick." Jesus is the Great Physician. We need to get

him to the sick people. I mean to the sinner man, as the colored people used to

say. We need to get Jesus to the man that needs something.

Yesterday was a wonderful day, always is when I get to go to the jails and the

prisons. I was in two penitentiaries yesterday, and thousands of people,

thousands of people. Oh, I never have seen the fields so white. You'd say,

"Well, what do you think happened yesterday?" I'll tell you what happened:

people got saved. Both of them, people got saved. Actually, I'd rather preach in

penitentiaries than churches. I really had. Listen, if I didn't have to do

deputation work and just kind of go among God's people, I'd just go to

penitentiary. I'd go from one to another. Why? To get more people saved.

I actually,I'd lot rather preach in a penitentiary than any other church in the

world because I'll get more people saved because they know they're sinners. And

you can't get too rough for them. And I just barnstorm, hoot and hollering,

jarring, stomping my feet, and everything, and telling them what sinners are,

and they just sit there and nod and say, "That's right. That's me, all right,

uh-huh." And give an invitation, here they come right down there. Always give a

public invitation. I said, "Just come on down then and get on your knees if you

want to be saved!" Here they come. Here they come.

Well, you try that in a church and see what you get. Especially Sunday morning

services, you know, when they're sort of starched and ironed, but need to be

washed. That's right. Boy, I tell you, I get so tired and sick of religion, I

don't know what to do. Education? Uh-uh. Doctors? Uh-uh. Medicine? Uh-uh. He

said, "Thy faith made thee whole."

Now, you know, we have a lot of discussions, and let me enter into just a little

bit, maybe before the meeting is over, I'll enlarge on. Now, people talk about

divine healing and faith healing. They'd say, "Uh, do you believe in faith

healing?" Now, when you ask a question like that, you have immediately

questioned the Word of God. It may be because of your ignorance, and not your

unbelief. Because did you read what I just gave you then? What did Jesus tell

her? He said, "Daughter, just be of good comfort. Thy what?" "Faith." Did you

get it? Hath done what? "Made thee whole."

All right, now let me ask you a question. And I've never said this before, but

it's time for it to be said just like I'm fixing to say it. If faith ever healed

anybody, it'll heal them now. And if you don't believe that, you better have you

a revival. He said, "Woman," or "Daughter, be of good comfort. Thy faith hath

made thee whole." And so if her faith brought her to Jesus, now, you know what I

know. You know I don't mean to say that it's what the woman had that healed her.

It's what got her in touch with Jesus that healed her. I don't believe faith

even saves you. I don't believe praying will save you. If my praying saved me,

I'd probably worship my prayers. But my praying, it just talked to Jesus, and he

got in on, and my faith just got me up to him, see?

Sure. Faith is that is that anchor rope. Faith is that pipe that pipes in

heaven's provisions of grace, wonderful goodness. And so,but I tell you one

thing: faith caused that woman to believe that Jesus was able, and what she

believed he was able to do, he did do. And she went home whole. I tell you

folks, we need that in this decayed generation of sickness. We've never seen

such a scourge of sickness since World War number one as we're seeing right now.

A whole world is diseased right now.

The Greatest Invitation

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. But you know, I've got

to go to my text. It's found in the 28th verse. This is the greatest invitation

in the entire Bible, right here. This is the one that old Dr. Charles Fuller

quoted so many times before he went home to be with the Lord: "Come unto me."

He didn't say, "Come to my secretary." He didn't say, "Come to one of my aides."

He didn't say, "Come to my church." He didn't say, "Come to the baptismal

waters." He didn't say, "Come to do better." He didn't say, "Come to some big

organization." He said, "Come unto me!"

And brother, if you want what he's fixing to offer tonight, and everybody needs

it, you're going to have to come to him to get it. And I'll tell you, if ever

I've seen a tired bunch of people, it's alcoholics and narcotic addicts when

they come walking or dragging in. I mean they're tired. They're tired

physically, they're tired mentally, they're tired out. I mean they're dead in

trespasses and sin. If you want to see somebody that's tired, you watch a man

after he spends all he's got in riotous living.

I'm just going to take it for granted, as long as a man will show up to hear the

gospel of Jesus Christ, there's hope for him. Jesus said, "Come unto me, all

ye," You know, one of the things about this invitation, it includes so many

people. And when you put the word A-L-L, that means just not anybody left out.

And he said God is not willing that one should perish, but that A-L-L, all,

should come to repentance. Brother, the only way you keep from perishing is to

come to repentance. And I believe one of the great doctrines that needs to be

preached today is repentance. I believe we're going to have to literally repent

of our sin, ask God to forgive us and cleanse us, and and and and show some

godly sorrow for sin. He said, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy

laden." Now then, when you get like that, you're ready to accept God's mercy.

Sowing and Reaping

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

Boys, I sure want you ready. I've been wanting to take you a ride in my plane. I

mean, I I I really I've been wanting to take all of you for an airplane ride.

And I believe Jesus is about ready to take you for a plain air ride. Yeah. Mhm.

See, you could get in my airplane without being saved; wouldn't be best. I'd

rather you be saved. Fact is, everybody rides with me, I want them to be saved.

But if we're riding through the air and it comes time for the plain air ride,

and you look over and I'll be gone, if you're unsaved, that old plane'll start

wobbling around. After a while, of course, if it's on automatic pilot, it'd fly

four, five, maybe six hours. Directly she'd begin to sputter and sputter, and

you'd begin to get scared, and down she'd come. Oh, listen, folks!

Driving along in a car with a saved car driver, you know, and look over and the

car driver's gone, and the old car's cutting across ditches and so forth, and my

soul! Look out and you see an old tractor coming across this lawn out here,

heading right up to this door, crashing through this window, and said, "What in

the world?" Tractor driver was a Christian, he's gone now. Mhm.

Are you listening? You may smile about it, boys, and that's all right, but the

time's going to come. Maybe today. Jesus may come any minute. Are you ready for

his coming? Do you believe in Jesus as your personal Savior right now? I want

you to, more than anything else.

Little boy came from a distant city last night and said he came down, you know,

and made his decision. And he told me, said, "Brother," after service, he said,

"Brother Roloff, how do you know you're saved?" Said, "I don't want to go to

hell. I don't want to go to hell." He said, "I guess I've been confused." My

heart went out to him and I talked with him and gave him the scriptures. "You

mean," he said, "if I believe that Jesus died for me and rose again, you mean

that I'm saved?" He said, "I do right now." Said, "I believe it. I believe it."

He said, "I want to go to heaven. I don't want to go to hell." I believe that's

just good sense. I really do. I don't want to go to hell. I know I'm going to

heaven. I've put my trust in Jesus.

Ah, listen to him, then. I'm trusting him fully and wholly to get me to heaven.

Boys and ladies and folks out in radioland, that's God's plan to get you to

heaven: that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, believe in

your heart God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

The Wicked Shall Be Turned In To Hell

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

You remember the boy in Kansas City in the jail, you know, I mean the prison?

Cut both his hands off, didn't he? Killed his wife, didn't he? He killed his

wife, and he said, "I'll cut the hands off that killed her." And he went to a

meat saw, didn't he? And sawed them off. Sawed them off. He said, "Those hands,

those guilty hands, those malicious, those those devlish hands killed my

companion. I'll saw them off." He sawed them off, and he has nothing but some

old nubs now. I see him every time I go there. You saw him.

But Jesus is saying, "If your hands are going to keep you from going to heaven,

you better go to the meat saw with them. You better saw them off." But you know,

there's something sweet: you don't even have to saw your hands off. You can just

put your hand in the nail-scarred hand, and keep your hand, ha!, and give him

your heart! Amen. And then he'll say, "You go use your hands for me, see? Lift

the burdens off of precious hearts."

Salvation

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

Dear friend, I'm thankful to God that that blood availed for my sin, and that

blood has covered my sin. And I came to that Great Doctor one day, and Dr. Grace

took out this old heart and put in a new heart, and made me whole.

Now fellas, that'll stop your lying. That'll stop your cheating. That'll stop

your cigarette smoking. That'll stop your thieving. That'll stop your

uncleanness. I mean, when that kind of blood comes into your spiritual life,

that'll solve your problem and answer all your questions. I ask you tonight, are

you willing for your problems to be solved? Do you plan to be a hoodlum and a

criminal the rest of your life? Do you want to live and die in the prison walls?

Do you want to live a lonely life?

I preached to a hundred and some-odd prisoners this week. And you know what all

of them wanted to do? Go home with me. Many times I'd say, "Fellas, how about

y'all going home with me?" And every one of them jumped up, and "We're ready."

But you know what? There was five great big steel doors between them and the

sunshine or the moonlight. I was the only one that got out. They opened the

double door, and I stepped in between. They opened the other door, and I stepped

out. I heard the boys begin to say, "God bless you, Brother Roloff. Come again.

Come again, don't wait so long." They can't,I missed a week and I came in, they

said, "Where were you? Where were you?" I take a month's meetings, they say,

"Where you been so long?"

Dear friends, I'm glad that Jesus can stay inside the jail with him.

(Singing)

I am coming to that old cross.

I am poor, and I'm weak, and I'm blind.

I am counting all but dross.

I shall full salvation find.

I am trusting, Lord, in thee,

Dear Lamb of Calvary.

Humbly at the cross I bow.

Save me, Jesus, oh, save me right now.

And that's exactly when he'll save you.

If I Could See Some Miracles

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

Well, he said, "Go tell him to duck seven times, and go under seven times."

Well, what did the sinner think about it? What did Naaman think about it? Got

mad. Ha! Did he blow a fuse! I mean he was mad. He said, "What?" He said, "Did

you tell him that I'm Captain Naaman? Did you tell him that I'm the one that's

led all these armies to victory, and he ought to be out here bowing and scraping

to me?" Didn't make the preacher no difference; he's in a prayer meeting.

I tell you, I'd get ashamed. Do you ever get ashamed of trying to make

impressions on certain people, huh? Come on. I tell you, that preacher, he never

did come out. He said, "I'll tell you, there's some finer water up yonder and

some rivers that'd be a lot cleaner, and I'm not going," Why, he said, "I'm not

going to dip in the River Jordan. No, sir!"

One of his servants came up to him and said, "Say, just a minute, your honor."

He said, "If he had told you to do something real hard and difficult, would you

have done it? Like defeat a whole army?" "Oh," said, "yes. Said if that's what

he tells me to do, I'll do it." Ain't that just like an old sinner? "I want to

do something big for my salvation. I'm not going to just humble myself and get

down on my knees and say, 'Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.' I ain't that

bad myself. I'm no reprobate." That's what you think. You wait till God reveals

your real character; you'll be two reprobates.

Come on, who you think you are, anyhow? Nothing but a rotten, stinking sinner.

That's all any of us were. We need Jesus! And he said, "Yes, I'd do something

hard." He said, "All right, why wouldn't you do something simple? It sometimes

takes more courage to do something simple than it does difficult and hard. And

little is much when God is in it."

The Finger of God

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

We don't like this very well here, but it's got to be said: "A bruised reed

shall he not break, smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth

judgment unto victory." Now, if it takes judgment for God to get victory, he'll

let the judgment come. But it'd be a lot better, now, the Bible said if you'll

judge yourself, you'll not have to be judged. In other words, if you'll just go

ahead and plead guilty yourself, and say, "Lord, I judge myself guilty," God

said, "All right, you're already judged." And then we'll run to Jesus. You'll

never get saved till you judge yourself lost. You got to You got to sit in on

the judgment seat.

Well, mine, listen! And I didn't even have to pay for any gas. And so you see,

if God's people had behaved themselves, he said he'd supply all of our needs.

And notice this verse. He said there was there was a devil got a hold to him,

he's blind, he's dumb. He healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both

spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, "Is not this the son of

David?" That's the world for you. People will try to explain away the very work

of the Lord. They'll say, "Well, he's he's a son of David. I mean, that's who he

is." And but they'll Listen: this world will do anything on earth but admit that

Jesus is the Son of God. Right. They'll admit he's a good man, he was a noble

character, and he did much good, and that he was a worthy example, and they'll

do everything on earth, but just accept him as the Son of God. Right.

And until you do believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,if thou shalt confess with thy

mouth the what? The Lord. The Lord! That is right there. That that that's the

one thing this world doesn't want to do, and until they do it, they'll never get

saved. Never will be saved. And so, "Is not this the son of David?" But when the

Pharisees, now here comes the religious folks along.

Hills That Help

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

But have you ever read that verse that said, "The wages of sin is" what? All

right. Does that explain why 20 million herpes victims are rotting with no

remedy tonight? No hope! No way! And yet, would you believe this report right

here,I cannot believe this to save my life. I saw it this afternoon, here it is:

This is from Mr. Robert Weinreb, executive director, National Herpes Research

Foundation, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Notice: he said that, uh, herpes victims

do not have to withdraw sexually. In other words, just go ahead and die, and

stay with your sin. And then here's your remedy right here: "We favor rational

education and expanded research effort as the best ways to fight herpes." You

know what I recommend? The new birth! It's sin! And America is rotten to the

core tonight.

Now then, the closing thought I want to give you: when these two witnesses, they

were killed, weren't they? They were killed in the street, these blessed old

saints of God. There goes the law, and there goes the preacher. There goes the

outstanding preacher and the outstanding lawyer, and they're dead. And the

television camera comes, and (mimics shutter/flash sound). Well, they're dead!

And announcements flashed around the world. Second day, still dead! Nobody

wasn't any funeral home on them, wasn't anybody wanted to bury them. Third day,

the cameras (mimics shutter sounds). Mmm! Man, they're moving! And I see him

drop his camera and head, folks, God's power was with those men. You can't keep

God's people killed. Abel, being dead, yet speaketh.

Folks, have you really trusted the Lord, and laid your Isaac on the altar and

said, "Lord, all that I am and have, I surrender to Jesus"?

A World Decaying Because of Man

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

Every nation that ever died died drunk, and you know it. France and all the rest

of them died in their liquor and soaked and saturated with their alcoholic

brain! The Bible said that drunkards shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

That's right.

Brother, I tell you, people come to me all the time and they say, "Now, Brother

Roloff, do you believe that a man can be a Christian and be a drunkard?" How

could he be? If a man's a Christian, he go to heaven. But the Bible said a

drunkard can't go to heaven, so how could a drunkard be a Christian? Bible said

in Romans chapter 5, "Sin shall not have dominion over you. Let not therefore

sin reign in your mortal body." Then if a man's an alcoholic or a dope addict,

how in the world could he be saved when he's completely conquered and captured

by the dope, or the liquor, or the sin? How could he be a Christian?

I don't believe I have any right to make loopholes for people. If you're a

drunkard here tonight, you're going to hell when you die. You're on your way

right now. The only thing that's keeping you out of hell right now is the

brittle cord of God's mercy. And one breath at a time, and one heartbeat, you're

going to hell if you're a drunkard, you put it down. You'd say, "Where'd you get

that?" I just gave it to you, right out of the Word of God. Why don't you

believe it? If you don't want to go to hell, ask Jesus to come into your heart

and he'll deliver you! We need men that'll be sober and clean!

Seven Reasons for Not Being A Christian

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

Oh, how many times, thousand, more than that: "Brother Roloff, I'd like to be a

Christian, but I just don't have that feeling. I don't feel nothing." Well, I

said dead people don't feel nothing. I said, "You're not supposed to feel

anything cause you're you're still dead! You got to get alive, and then you've

got some feeling coming on." And I said, "Just believe,"

Listen, the Bible didn't say, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt

feel saved." I'd rather be saved than feel saved. He didn't say, "Feel on the

Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." He said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus

Christ and thou shalt be saved."

Oh, listen! There's no need in any you precious little old girls going to hell

because you don't have any feeling. You'll have feeling when you get to hell.

Oh, yes you will, and I don't want you to go there. Boys, don't wait till the

feeling comes. Let the faith come. Believe what I'm preaching! Jesus said, "Come

unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, I'll give you rest." He said,

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." "If thou shalt

confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, believe in your heart God raised him from

the dead, thou shalt be saved." "For God so loved the world that he gave his

only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have

everlasting life."

This afternoon, as I was thinking about this simple message that I used to

preach along the trail, I thought of an old man. I guess he's the wickedest old

man that nearly ever lived in my community. When God called me to preach, I

started praying for him and his two boys. They were my lifelong friends. Both of

them are dead now, and I'm still living, uh, in the grace of God.

But one day, I was preaching in my mama and daddy's church. I'd been in Baylor

University maybe one year, and Shiloh Baptist said to my mother and daddy, "Uh,

would you ask Lester if he'd hold a protracted meeting in the church where he

was saved?" And my mother said, "Son, the church wants you to preach a meeting."

And I said, "All right." And so, I remember one morning in that little old

Chevrolet that I had, I started out at the drive down the old black road, not

blacktop, but just dirt road. And I said, "Lord, if there's anybody between here

and church that you'd like for me to speak to, I volunteer my services." I mean,

not maybe not in those words, but I said, "Lord, anybody, don't make no

difference who it is, I'll talk to them on the way. I'm going a little early."

And brother, when I topped the hill of old brother J. Frank Davis's farm, you

know who I saw walking up the road? Uncle Johnny. I said, "Lord, I didn't mean

him." And I really didn't. If I'd have known I was going to meet him, I wouldn't

have made such a statement to the Lord.

Well, he said, "Do you want me to help you preach this morning, Brother

Charlie?" And I said, "I sure do. I'm preaching in my home church, my mama and

daddy'll be sitting there, and everybody else that's known me all my life, and

all the old folks that have prayed for me, the lady that won me to Jesus, Miss

Taylor, she'll be there." And I said, "I want you to help me." And he said,

"Well, I don't think I'm going to, unless you can do what you said you'd do."

Brother, I I almost most here tonight, I hit on those old brakes, and you talk

about squeaking, those were the loudest brakes I've ever And I put those brakes

on, I threw it up there in reverse, and I come back and back, and that old

Chevrolet had a whine, "Ooo-ooo-ooo." I backed up. Uncle Johnny kind of stuck

his old head into the door, I mean at the side glass. "Hi, preacher!" And I

said, "Uncle Johnny, want to talk to you." He said, "What about?" And I said,

"About your soul." He said, "What?" (mimics spitting) He spit tobacco juice

about 10 feet and said, "You don't think I'd go to that church, bunch of

hypocrites! I'd never walk down I'd go to hell 'fore I'd get around them people,

they ain't no good."

Well, it broke my heart. I started crying. And I said, "Uncle Johnny, I I just

want to tell you, I've been praying for you ever since the Lord called me to

preach." "Well," he said, "all right, preacher." The old man limped on back down

the road and was gone.

Oh, I'm glad that's not the end of the story. I came home months later from

Baylor. My mama said, "Brother Roloff, Uncle Johnny's on his deathbed. He's

calling for you." And I said, "I'm going." I took off up the road. I walked in

the door of Bumpass's home. Thelma was Miss Uncle Johnny's daughter. I walked

in, and I saw almost a ghost laying on the bed. His old cheekbones were sticking

out, his eyes had sunk back. They'd seen almost their last scene.

Uncle Johnny said, "Preacher, I'm glad you come." I said, "Uncle Johnny, what

can I do for you?" I I was hoping he'd You know, I just my heart is just

a-pounding. I remember that last time. He said, "Preacher," he said, "I want you

to talk to my boys." He said, "Tell them not to live like I've lived." "Remember

when Virgie, my wife, used to try to get me to go to church, and I said, 'No,

wouldn't go there with them hypocrites.' And said, 'If I had my life to live

over, preacher, I'd go to church. I'd worship the Lord. I'd live different. Tell

my boys, J.F. and Joe, tell them not to live like I've lived.'" And he said,

"Preacher, I'll be dead now in a few more days, and I want you to preach my

funeral." And I said, "I will."

"But Uncle Johnny, I want to ask you a question: What have you done about it?

Anything?" And he said, "Preacher," his old heart was melted, his old voice was

soft, feeble, though, but he said, "I've gotten down by the side of the bed and

prayed, and asked Jesus to come in my heart and save me, until I was too weak to

climb back up on the bed. But," he said, "preacher, I've wasted my life. Threw

it away gambling in sin." Said, "Warn my boys."

The call came. Mama said, "He's gone. We'll have the funeral tomorrow." I said,

"I'll be there." I stood before a six-foot casket, maybe a little more, with the

frailest body you could ever see. And I said to my congregation these very

words. I said, "Here lies the body, a wasted life, but a saved soul. And J.F.

and Joe, I'm warning you. I promised your dad on his deathbed that I'd warn you

boys not to live the way your daddy lived, but to give your heart to Jesus

Christ."

The Cross

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

Ah, Jesus said, "Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission." And he

There'll be no cleansing, there'll be no purifying, there'll be no difference.

We'd keep you here 50 years, and you'd be a rotten, stinking sinner when you

left, unless you gave your heart to Jesus and came under the blood. Only that

which is under the blood is protected. The world can say what it will, but they

The Old Time Religion

Sermon by Lester Roloff

Lester Roloff:

And you mothers and daddies are going to give an account to God in the morning

for giving up the ship. And preachers, my Bible tells me, if we'd have stayed

with the statutes and stayed with the judgments of God, God said, "I'd have

turned them around and brought them back." It's in the Bible.

The old-time religion, it's not church membership, it's not morality, it's not

doing better! What is it? It's an old-fashioned new birth that starts when the

gospel falls into the heart of an unbeliever and he begins to get under

conviction, and cries out to God for mercy, and he's made a new creature in

Christ Jesus! I said it's a supernatural transaction brought about by the Holy
