New Eyes of Faith for the New Year

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything, just as God now knows me completely.
-- 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NLT)
A few years ago, my doctor told me that cataracts had formed in my eyes. Over time, my vision blurred, a haze clouding what once seemed clear. I resisted the idea of surgery at first, uncertain and anxious about the outcome. But eventually, the blur grew so thick that I had no choice but to act.
Before the surgery, each letter on the eye chart looked like a shadow, soft and indistinct. But once the cataracts were removed, I saw with stunning clarity, with colors sharper, shapes defined, light brighter than before.
As this new year begins, I’m reminded of Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 13:12. We see imperfectly now, but one day, our vision will be complete. Until then, I want to live with fresh eyes of faith. I want eyes focused not on what is dim or distorted, but on the hope and truth of Christ.
The song “Eyes on Jesus” by Scott Willis captures this beautifully:
• See the world as Jesus sees it.
• Focus on people striving to live faithfully each day.
• Build God’s kingdom by bringing hope to those who need it.
• Keep your eyes on Jesus, and he will show you the way.
Are you carrying an old, clouded vision of Christ into this new year? Maybe it’s time to let Him give you spiritual clarity so you can see His purpose, His people, and His promises with renewed sight. Just as my surgery restored my physical vision, God wants to renew our spiritual vision, too.

Question for Reflection:
Are you carrying an old, clouded vision of Christ into this new year? If so, what changes can you make spiritually to bring your faith into focus?
