Publication Day
My book Divine Violence and the Character of God is being published today. The aim of my book is to study violence in the Old Testament, both human and divine. Below are some of the emphases of the book.
1. There is violence in the Old Testament, both human and divine.
2. Human violence begets divine violence.
3. In the midst of violence and judgement, God remains a merciful and gracious God, a God who is slow to anger, and a God who abounds in steadfast love and faithfulness.
4. God does not want anyone to die. God said, “‘I don’t want wicked people to die,’ declares the Almighty LORD. ‘I want them to turn from their evil ways and live.’”
5. The God of the Old Testament is a God who forgives iniquities, transgressions, and sins.
