While I live in rural America, I know that many live in larger towns/cities that have Uber and Lyft. Car broken down and cannot fix it right now? Don’t own a car? Have you been partying and need a responsible ride home? Got taken on a fishy date and you’re now stranded? I’m not judging…we’ve all been there at one point, without a car. No explanation needed. I sometimes wish something like Uber/Lyft was available in my area. The local taxi company is sketchy about their hours and where/when to call for a taxi, so I have to ask friends or my BF to take me when I have periodic car issues. I always compensate for gas, or try to.
However, after reading a recent story about a responsible woman that was drunk and called for an Uber to get her “safely” home, I may have changed my opinion about Uber/Lyft. She was so inebriated that she asked the Uber driver to help her to her door. The Ring camera recorded him holding her up by groping her breasts as well as asking if anyone was home (possibly with the intention of r*ping her). I also saw her video on Facebook, where the victim herself shared the video and commentary. Even in her drunken state, she realized something was off and started making a big fuss, to which her neighbor, nightgown clad and all, came to rescue her. After reading that article and watching that video, I think that makes me wary of strangers driving me places. I think I might opt instead for the “driverless” robotic cars at this point…I mean, I’d rather take my chances! However, I then saw this agency and other law firms advertising their services, so I thought I’d better pass this info on!
And always, ALWAYS call the police. ALWAYS!

(From the A Case For Women’s Website):
Uber Sexual Assault Is a Thing (Lyft, Too!) – But It’s Not Your Fault.
If you were sexually assaulted riding in an Uber or Lyft, it was wrong. You were assaulted: plain and simple. So, stop blaming yourself! You hired a company to drive you safely because that is what they were supposed to do. It does not matter if you were up all night drinking and wearing the skimpiest of skirts. In fact, it makes us angry that we even must explain this, but because we are women – well, we get it.
Also, let’s not forget drivers. Unbelievably (or maybe believably), women drivers are at risk, too.
