Robert Breaker strange obsession against Peter Ruckman's Signature Phrase: 'The Best Way I Know How
Robert Breaker has repeatedly criticized the phrase 'come to God the best way you know how.' From 2012 to 2025, he has called it 'idiotic,' 'stupid,' 'harmful,' and a 'bloodless gospel.' Breaker claims Dr. Ruckman 'always preached against' this phrase during his ministry from the late 70s to the late 90s. However, the historical record shows Dr. Ruckman consistently used this exact phrase throughout his ministry.

Why does Breaker hate the phrase 'the best way I know how' so much? Here's why.
He considers it a WORK.
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman taught that you come to God "the best way you know how"
through a Sinner's Prayer.
Because Breaker believes a Sinner's Prayer is a "work," he believes this phrase
represents a false gospel.
[00:25 - 01:13] [November 6, 2025]
Robert Breaker: ...is to confess with their mouth that the Lord is Jesus, or
Jesus is the Lord. Wouldn't that be Israel? So when I read Romans 10, I see Jews
asking Paul, "Hey, what about Israel?" And he says, "Well, if a guy is is a Jew
and he has confessed that Jesus is his Lord, that Jesus is his Messiah, and if
he believes that God hath raised him from the dead, well then he can be saved."
Right. So if he believes in who and what, then he'll be saved. Right. I don't
think he's telling you you have to do both, and that you have to say it with the
mouth or you're not saved. Right, right, right. If he's saying you have to
believe from your heart in something and say it with your mouth at the same
time, then that would be a faith plus works gospel, and that would nullify what
Jesus did, because it's not just what he did, it's what you say. Which would be
a work.

[On-screen Text]: [The man is Dr. Peter S. Ruckman and the quote is used out of
context. Dr. Peter S. Ruckman [the man] always believed you access the blood
through belief + sinner's prayer.]
Robert Breaker: Here's a quote by a man who whom I used to really love and
respect. I'm not going to mention his name. But this man has changed, and he no
longer preaches the blood of Jesus Christ. But at one time, in 1987, he made
this quote—one of the best quotes this man ever said: "If you are saved, you
know that the only way to heaven is the substitutionary blood atonement of Jesus
Christ. If you don't know that, it's because you are lost." This same man now
says, "Just come to Jesus the best way you know how."
[01:45 - 01:53] [June 9, 2017]
Robert Breaker: ...people misunderstand salvation. They have what I like to call
a bloodless gospel, and they try to teach salvation is come to God, uh, the best
way you know how, or however you want to...
[01:54 - 03:11] [February 24, 2018]
Robert Breaker: There's something that I hear preachers say nowadays, and I I
don't know where they got this from, this isn't in the Bible. Even my old
pastor, Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, used to say this from time to time, and I think he
just picked it up because he heard some other guy say it. But I've always
questioned this, and I said, "Why did you say that?" Sometimes at the end of a
sermon or something like that, you'll hear a preacher say, "Now if you're lost,
come to Jesus Christ the best way you know how." And I think to myself, "What?
Why would you tell someone to come to Jesus the best way they know how? What if
they don't know how? Or what if what they're thinking is the wrong way? But
that's the only way they know. Are they saved? No! I don't understand why people
say, 'Come to Jesus the best way you know how.' That's not Bible! The Bible says
come to Jesus this way! And there is a certain way that you must know to come to
Jesus. It's called the saving knowledge of the truth. And the way you come to
Jesus is faith cometh by hearing, hearing by the word of God, you hear the
gospel preached, you understand, and then you believe with all of your heart in
the gospel of salvation. That's the way to know how, and that's the way to be
saved. It's not the best way you know how, 'cause a lot of people don't know
how! It's got to be the Bible way!"
[03:12 - 03:26] [April 10, 2018]
Robert Breaker: Cain was a rebel. Cain rebelled and said, "I don't care about
the bloody way. I'm going to do it my way! It's going to be the way I want to
come to God, and I'll come to God the best way I know how. I'll do it my way."
And God says, "No."
[03:27 - 03:45] [April 26, 2019]
Robert Breaker: And that's what this self-centered gospel teaches. It says,
"Forget 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, don't look at the cross, you just come, and
you..." Here's one of the things that I hate the most. I've heard people preach,
"If you want to get saved, just come to God the best way you know how." And when
I hear that, I go, "No!"
[03:46 - 04:00] [May 11, 2019]
Robert Breaker: I hear preachers sometimes, they'll say, "Well, just come to God
the best way you know how." And I look at my Bible, and I go, "I don't I don't
see that in the Bible." I mean, I I I don't like hearing people say that,
because that's not what the Bible teaches. The Bible says come to God a certain
way.
[04:01 - 06:51] [August 28, 2020]
Robert Breaker: But you know what the Bible says? Let's go to Proverbs 14:12.
You see, there's a lot of people out there that think, "Well, yeah, I hear what
you're saying, and I think there's probably a heaven and a hell. So I'm going to
do the best thing I can. I'm going to do the best way I know how, I'm going to
try to get to God." You know, I don't like that. I don't like that at all. I've
heard preachers say this, and I and I still to this day do not like this. Every
time I hear a preacher say this, I cringe. Because this is not Bible. But yet
they say it. I've heard them say it from the pulpit. And I I want to go up to
the preacher after and say, "Hey brother, maybe you shouldn't say that." But I
haven't yet, maybe I will. But it's just wrong to say this. I've heard preachers
say, "If you want to come to to salvation, if you want to be saved, come to
Jesus the best way you know how." And I just I just go, "No! I don't see that in
the Bible! Nowhere in the Bible does it say the best way you know how." The
Bible says here in Proverbs chapter 14 verse 12, "There is a way which seemeth
right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." What if the best
way you know how is the wrong way? You see, there's the Bible way and there's
your way. Your way leads to hell. You must come to God the Bible way. Jesus
Christ said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me." There's one way to heaven, and it's the way God
said, and it's through the blood atonement of Christ. It's through faith and
trusting in what Jesus did. I cannot believe that there's pastors out there that
say, "Just come to God the best way you know how." What if that way that you
think is how is the wrong way? Then you're going to go to hell like a bullet.
No, don't come to God the way you think. Come to God the way He said. See,
you've got to trust in the way He said, trust in His word, trust the Bible.
Don't come to God in your way. See, a lot of people out there, they're trusting
in their way.
[On-screen Text]: While you listen to this, Think about Dr. Peter S. Ruckman
saying the best way you know how...
Robert Breaker: A lot of Hindus, "Well, I believe that Hinduism, I can do this,
that, or the other thing." Other Others believe, "Ah, through reincarnation.
Well, if I do good, my way is to be, uh, reincarnated through another..." And
and there's a lot of different ways that people say you can get to heaven. But
what is the right way? Well, let's look at Psalm 37 verse 5. Show you a couple
more verses here. But there's only one way to heaven. You can't come to God your
way. You've got to come the way God said, and that's the way through the blood.
Through the blood of Christ, forgiveness through the blood, and I'll get to that
here in a minute. Psalm 37 and verse 5: "Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust
also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." You don't trust in your way. You
know, it's not the best way you know how.
[06:51 - 09:41] [February 26, 2021]
Robert Breaker: ...things that I just cannot take. I despise this so much, and I
just can't I cannot contain myself, let's put it that way, when I hear this
said, okay? Because this is so harmful, and so horrible, and so awful. And a lot
of times people say things without thinking about what they're actually saying.
But I have heard, from time to time, a preacher in the pulpit stand up and say,
"Now come to Jesus Christ the best way you know how." And when they say that, I
just cringe. Just cringe. And I just go, "No! Don't say that!" There could be
someone here that's lost and they could misunderstand. Nowhere in the Bible does
it say come to God the best way that you know how. What if you don't know how?
What if the best way you know is not the right way? Are you saved just because
you came the best way you knew how? I think every Hindu tries to get forgiveness
of sins the best way they know how. Every Catholic, every Seventh-day Adventist,
every I I mean, it's not the best way you know. If it was the best way you know,
then let's throw the Bible in the garbage, because you can come the best way you
know how. No, the Bible says you must come the way that God said, and you need
to know that God said, "This is the way to come to Him: through the blood." So
when a preacher stands up and says, "Well, just come to God the best way you
know how," I just go, "Ugh, why would you say such a dumb statement?!" Because
what if the best way you know is not the way God said? The Bible says there is a
way that seemeth right unto a man, but the ways therein are the ways of death!
What if the way you think you know how is the wrong way and it leads you
downstairs to the other place? You didn't get saved by coming the best way you
knew how. That that is a lack of preaching the gospel. The gospel teaches us
that there is one way to come to God, and it's through the blood. And I'm going
to tell you how to come through the blood. I'm not going to say, "Now forget the
blood and come the best way you know how." I can never I will never say that. It
just It hurts my ears to hear someone say, "Just come to God the best way you
know how." That's a lack of preaching the gospel. I don't like that. I don't
appreciate that. What I do appreciate is someone who doesn't leave out the
blood. So when they say, "Come to God the best way you know how," I say, "Hey,
where's the blood? Why'd you leave it out? Why would you say such a stupid,
idiotic statement?" If you know your Bible, you know Jesus Christ would never
say that. Jesus Christ would say, "Come to me through the blood. Come to me
through what I did for you. Come through the sacrificial blood atonement. Come
to God the way He said, through Christ." Don't come the best way... to my soul.
Now, I know I'm saved. You know why I know I'm saved? Because the Bible says
this is how you get saved, and this is what happened to me, and I got saved the
way the Bible says. See, I didn't come to God the best way I knew how. See,
there are people out there that say, "Well, you don't have to believe in the
blood, you don't have to trust the blood, you just come to Jesus the best way
you know how, or just ask God to save you..."
[09:41 - 10:01] [March 19, 2021]
Robert Breaker: A lot of people today you talk to, and you and you say, "Hey
man, are you a Christian?" "Oh yeah, yeah, I go to church." Well, that doesn't
mean you're a Christian! But a lot of people say, "Well, I go to church," and
you say, "Well, how does your church teach to get to heaven?" And they say,
"Well, just come to God the best way you know how." All these other churches
weren't preaching the blood, they weren't preaching the gospel. They're
preaching, "Oh, come to God the best way you know how."
[10:02 - 10:07] [September 19, 2021]
Robert Breaker: So they say, "Just come to God the best way you know how, and He
won't cast you out, because you came to Him, He'll accept you."
[10:08 - 10:34] [April 28, 2022]
Robert Breaker: Did you know that's not my term that I made up? I went to, uh,
Pensacola Bible Institute, and, uh, the old pastor there was Peter Ruckman, and
that was a term that he made up. My dad always remembered that, my dad went to
school there as well, and, uh, he said Peter Ruckman used to always preach
against that "bloodless gospel"—that gospel that leaves out the blood of Jesus,
that tells people, "Just come to God the best way you know how."
[10:35 - 10:57] [May 29, 2022]
Robert Breaker: When someone gets saved, we call them a new convert, right? You
ever heard that? So it's conversion. Now let's go to Matthew chapter 13. Many of
your churches here this Sunday are in their pulpit and they're speaking, and
they're going to say, "Just come to Jesus the best way you know how." I have
always despised that saying. I cringe when I hear that.
[10:58 - 11:12] [May 29, 2022]
[On-screen Text]: BTW Dr. Peter S. Ruckman said "come to God the best way you
know how"
Robert Breaker: In many churches, do they tell you, "Your fault"? No, they say,
"You're a good person, and God loves you, now just come to Him the best way..."
I feel like Joel Osteen all of a sudden, don't I? So what does the Bible teach?
Does the Bible teach you don't need to know about any of this, you just come to
God the best way you know how?
[11:13 - 11:20] [On-screen Text]
Breaker says if you come 'the best way you know how,' you are deceiving souls
into hell.
That is Dr. Peter S. Ruckman's verbatim testimony.
According to Robert Breaker, Peter Ruckman is in Hell.
[11:20 - 11:28] [June 25, 2022]
Robert Breaker: ...or we think you could just get saved by just asking God to
save you, or ask Jesus in your heart, or or we think salvation is just you come
to God the best way you know how.
[11:28 - 12:45] [November 3, 2023]
Robert Breaker: There's some people that say this. Some people, and I've heard
this in King James Bible-believing churches, and I cannot fathom the ignorance
of a man who would say this, because there's nowhere in the Bible that you ever
read this. But I have heard preachers say: "Come to God the best way you know
how." Um, wait a minute. The best way you know how? What if the way you know
isn't the way God said? Is God going to save you apart from faith in the blood?
"Come to God the best way you know how." The Bible says there is a way which
seemeth right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death. So you
might come to God and think, "I want you to save me and I'm coming this way,"
and you're trusting in something you do. Are you saved? Why would anyone say
such a stupid statement when the Bible says, no, you come to God and trust the
blood? Why wouldn't they say, "Come to God by faith in His blood"? Why would
they say, "Come to God the best way you know how"? That is so blatantly
unbiblical.
[12:46 - 13:04] [June 13, 2024]
Robert Breaker: ...in the atonement of Jesus Christ. Others today preach a
bloodless gospel. Many people today, they preach a gospel without blood, and
they just say things like, "Well, just come to God the best way you know how."
They say things like, "Well, just go to God the best way you know how and ask
Him to save you. Invite Him into your heart."
[13:05 - 13:17] [July 8, 2024]
Robert Breaker: Look at verse 37: "All that the Father giveth me shall come to
me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." How many of you heard
a preacher preach that, say, "Now just come to God the best way you know how"?
[13:18 - 13:40] [September 13, 2024]
Robert Breaker: You must hear. This one gets me. Oh, I hate this! Oh, I hate
this! I hear a preacher say, "Just come to God the best way you know how." What
if the best way you know how is the Jehovah Witness way? What if the best way
you know how is the wrong way, are you getting saved? You don't come to God the
best way you know how, you come to God the way God said how, through the Bible!
[13:40 - 15:23] [January 9, 2025]
Robert Breaker: Well, let's go over to this guy and say, "Hey, uh, Pastor Will,
tell me, how how do you get saved?" Well, Pastor Will says, "Well, here's what I
hear in my pulpit all the time, and when I go preach for other preachers, I hear
them say this same thing. They say, 'Just go to God or just come to God the best
way you know how.'" And I go, "Wait, what? No, no, no, see, this is what I
preach. I preach this 'cause my denomination says this, and and, uh, we've heard
other preachers say this, and it just sounds good, it has a good sound to it, so
so we just go around and tell everybody, just come to God the best way you know
how." Does the Bible say come to God the best way you know how? Pastor Emmet?
"Um, that's the dumbest thing that anyone's ever said." Uh, Pastor Emmet, now
calm down a little bit. Well, how can you How could you tell someone to come to
God the best way they know how? What if the way they know isn't the way the
Bible says? What if the the way they think to get to heaven is the wrong way?
Then they're not getting saved, are they? What does that mean, come to God the
best way you know how? It does— All right, I'll bite. Pastor William, how do you
get saved? "Well, you just ask God to forgive you your sins. You don't have to
hear or understand, you just come to God the best way you know how, and you just
say, 'Oh God, I'm a sinner, please save me.'" Come to God the best way I know
how, and I just say, "Hey, save me." And he goes, "All right." You know, if you
say come to God the best way you know how, You can't come to God the best way
you know how. You don't know anything, just come to God the best way you know
how.
[15:23 - 16:09] [February 6, 2025]
Robert Breaker: We have some corrupt preachers nowadays, just like corrupt
priests of days of old, that omit the blood atonement of Jesus Christ. And they
tell you, "Well, just come to God the best way you know how." If you hear a man
from the pulpit say something ridiculous like, "Come to God the best way you
know how," you're dealing with an apostate. Because what if the best way you
know how isn't the way that God said? God says come through the cross, come
through the blood, come through the crucifixion! And yet you're telling people,
"Oh, just go to God the best way you know how." That's not the gospel! The Bible
says, "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the ends thereof are
the ways of death." A lot of people try to come to God the best way they know
how.
[16:09 - 16:34] [February 10, 2025]
Robert Breaker: I hear men preaching this, and they claim to be King James Bible
believers, they claim to be independent Baptists, they claim to be from the
school that I went to or connected with the man, and they say things like, "Just
come to God the best way you know how, and He'll accept you." No, that's a lie.
You don't come to God the best way you know how, because the way you know might
not be the right way. You know, the Bible says there is a way which seemeth
right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death. You don't come to
God your way.
[16:34 - 17:00] [April 1, 2025]
Robert Breaker: ...have a problem with these ministers, too, that say things
like, "Well, just come to God the best way you know how." The Bible says there's
a way that seemeth right unto man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death.
Guest: I remember a guy that said that. It was Billy Graham.
Robert Breaker: Billy Graham said that a lot, but yet people I know whose church
I used to go to would say that.
[On-screen Text]: Overlaid photo of Dr. Peter S. Ruckman by me not Breaker.
Robert Breaker: And I'm like, do they even know what they're saying? That's the
dumbest statement you can make, because guess what? You can't come the best way
that you know how.
[17:01 - 17:15] [1950's]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: And may God help you unsaved people listening to my voice
right now, to bow your head there by your television set and receive Him as your
Savior the best way you know how. He is risen, He's living, He loves you, He'll
save you.
[On-screen Text]: THE END
[17:16 - 18:31] [1969 - "HELL"]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: If a building was burning, and you knew it was burning,
and you were in it, it was burning to the ground, and a fellow put a ladder up
there, climbed up the ladder, held out his arms to you, and said, "Come on, I'll
get you down." How long would it take you to get out the window and get to him?
You know, if you don't, there's only one or two things wrong: either you don't
believe the building's burning, and a man has to be crazy to believe that if the
building really was burning; or else it'd be just sheer old pride. That'd be the
only thing that'd keep him doing it. Christ said, "I am the way." Fellow said to
me one time, he said, "How can a man be the way?" Well, I said it's like a
fireman climbing up a ladder. He holds out his hands and says, "I am the way."
He's the way down. The way down is a man. A man picks you up and carries you
down. "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but
by me." Now if you never received the Lord Jesus Christ your Savior, you ought
to do it tonight. You say, "Well preacher, how do I do it?" You do it by faith.
Just simply say, "Lord, I believe what the fellow said about my condition, about
my destiny, my destination, and tonight I'll accept Your Son the best way I know
how as my Savior." Isn't that simple? Isn't that simple? Anybody could do that
here tonight. Any of these boys and girls, 4 years old on up can understand
that.
[18:31 - 19:29] [December 19th, 1970 - "Dr. Ruckman's Full Length Testimony I &
II"]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: And he said, "All right, if you'll ask Him to save save
you, give me your hand." He held out his hand, I shook his right hand. He said,
"Now bow your head and pray." I said, "I don't know how to pray." He said, "Well
just go on and pray in your own words, just the best way you know how." I said,
"I'm not I'm not much at praying." I said, "I know Hail Mary, I know Our Father,
but I I I don't know how to pray myself." And he said, "Well, just in your own
words, ask Christ to save you." I said, "Okay." So I bowed my head and prayed. I
prayed about, uh, a minute by the clock, and in that minute I think I said about
eight cuss words. And when I got through, he was smiling. I said, "What you
laughing at?" And he said, "Did you really mean that prayer?" And I said, "You
blankety blank right I meant it." And he said, "Well," he said, "if you meant
that prayer," he said, "you're saved."
[19:30 - 20:49] [8/27/78 - "BEHOLD THE MAN"]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: Let's bow our heads for prayer. Father, bless the
invitation this morning. I've just drawn a little picture here, not much of a
picture at that, kind of a little cartoon. I know our Savior is a living God,
and He rose from the dead, and He's here in the presence and person of the Holy
Spirit. I know He'll receive anybody who comes. If any man, any woman, any child
in this building gets up out of their seat and comes down this aisle to trust
Him as a Savior, I know He won't turn them down. You said in Your book, "Him
that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." Lord Jesus, you know I came to
you many years ago, the best way I knew how. Nobody going I'm not going to stand
here and waste 5 minutes of your time arguing about who's right and who's wrong.
There's one thing that's right: you ought to know Jesus Christ, you ought to
trust Him, you ought to confess Him. Now that's right. There can't be any doubt
about it. And when that's taken care of, a lot of the problems some of you folks
have going to get ironed out, and a lot of the questions going to get answered.
If you don't believe me, ask some of these other people. You got people here
fooled with Buddhism before they were saved, Satanism, seances, astrology, tea
leaves, meditation, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Hare Krishna, Meher Baba guru, and
all this stuff. And when they found Jesus Christ, they found the answer. Now you
can, too. Let's sing another stanza. Come while we sing. Step out. Come the best
way you know how.
[20:50 - 22:34] [1980 - "STUDY IN REVELATION"]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: Now, brethren, watch yourselves for your salvation. He's
coming. He's coming. If you're not ready, will you get ready now? You say,
"Preacher, how do I do it?" Simple: bow your head there by the phonograph, by
the stereo, or the hi-fi, whatever you've got there. Bow your head, close your
eyes, pray this prayer with me. Say, "Lord Jesus, I know I'm a sinner." Can't
you pray that? Aren't you an honest man or woman? Pray, "Lord Jesus, I know I'm
a sinner. I don't want to go to hell when I die." You see, if you believe His
word, you take Him at His word to be serious. Hell's not for heroes, hell's no
joke. You don't want to go there. "I don't want to go to hell when I die." Pray
this. Say, "Right now, Lord, the best way I know how, I'm coming to You, and I'm
trusting You as my Savior. Pray, Lord Jesus, save my soul and wash me in the
blood. Make me a new creature. Let me know I'm saved." Then pray, "Thank You,
Lord, for dying for me. Thank You for shedding Your blood for me, a poor sinner.
I accept You as my own Savior with all my heart and soul. Amen." Try it. You've
tried a lot of stuff. Try that, brother. Try that. Father, bless this recording.
May some soul right now pass from death to life by hearing and believing Your
word. In Jesus' name, Amen.
[22:35 - 24:32] [1987 - "SOUL WINNING III-B"]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: I finished my whole dinner dealing with him, and he got
saved over the plate, and he hadn't eaten a bite yet. There are ways to do it.
When the invitation comes, that's when the trouble starts. Down in Pensacola,
Florida, somewhere near there's an a doctor named Melvin Young. And uh he'd been
witnessed to, but every Godly person in that town that ever died in front of
him, and I used to go to his uh office before I was saved, where I was waiting
on the house, so I'd go across the hallway to his office and drink wine out of
his cabinet between uh programs. When I got saved, I sent him letters while I
was away at school. I sent him one letter every month for eight months and
prayed for him. I knew he was going to have to witness to him. I came uh back to
Pensacola after eight months, went to his office and dealt with him. I never
seen a man under worse conviction in my life. That old doctor sat at that desk,
and I sat across from him for 30 minutes, I put it on him. His face just looked
like a man in a hailstorm. End of 30 minutes, I got up and I said, "Now, Doc,"
and I got my hand across the desk. I said, "If you will the best way you know
how receive the Lord Jesus," and bang, that telephone rang right on the desk in
front of us. And that doctor, he shook his head, and then said hello, it's
emergency call, and he grabbed that hat and coat and tore out of there, and I
never had a chance to witness to him again. And I turned that speaker. I
preached him a message on the Great White Throne Judgment at 50 mph going down
that road at night. When I got all through, I had me a turntable back then,
putting a record and played softly and tenderly, "Jesus is calling, calling for
you and me." Faded that thing down, got that mic, and said, "If you have ever
accepted Christ your Savior, blink your lights." You got to give an invitation.
I said, "Blink your lights." This guy didn't blink his lights. And I said, "If
you have ever trusted Christ your Savior, blink your lights." He didn't blink
his lights. I said, "If you will right now the best way you know how trust Jesus
Christ your Savior, blink your lights." He didn't blink his lights.
[24:33 - 27:54] [1988 Broadcast]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: Now if you've been with us, you've been watching a
salvation message. And at the end of this program, there's no pitch for funds,
so just relax. I want to talk to you just personally for a minute, you and me,
just here, the two of us alone. And it's not going to be about money. And it's
not going to be about prayer, and it's not going to be about this telecast
you've just seen. What I'm interested in is now you've heard this message, what
are you going to do about it? You've heard how to be saved, you know how to be
saved, you've heard what happens to a man who's not saved. Your conscience bears
witness that it's true, and if it didn't, you could find out if you'd pray a
minute and ask God to show you if it was true. And as we go off the air here
today, why don't you just do this? If you're with a crowd right now, two or
three other people, you're not by yourself, get off by yourself someplace. If
you're by yourself right now while I'm talking to you right this minute, why
don't you get on your knees right now and ask God to show you whether what I
told you was so or not? Ask Him. I'm worried about the English construction,
grammatical construction, I could care less. I'm after your hide, whoever you
are. I want you for God. I want you for Jesus Christ. I want you in heaven. I
want you in New Jerusalem. Don't want you in the lake of fire. Now if you think
I've lied to you or misrepresented something or tried to scare you and you know,
give you a con man job, why don't you get down on your knees right now? Right
now, bud, right now. And say, "God, did that fellow tell me the truth, or did he
not?" Try the spirits. Don't you believe all this garbage you see on television.
Try it out. Get on your knees right now and say, "God, did that fellow tell me
the truth, or did he not?" And if I told you the truth, if I told you the truth,
why don't you right today, right this minute, accept Jesus Christ as your
Savior? Right now. Say, "How do you do it? How do you do it, Ruckman?" It's the
easiest thing you ever did in your life is getting saved. The hardest thing you
ever did in your life was to make up your mind to accept God's Son as your
Savior. That's where the problem is. Now listen. You got your mind made up you
need salvation, want to be saved, it's as easy as falling off a log. You just
close your eyes there by that set and pray this prayer. Say, "Lord Jesus..." Go
on, try it. "Lord Jesus, I know I'm a sinner." You can pray that, can't you? God
bless you, I can. Try it. "Lord Jesus, I know I'm a sinner. I don't want to go
to hell when I die." So right now, the best way I know how, go on, pray it. See
if it works. Put me to the test, try me out. Say, "Right now, the best way I
know how, I'm going to accept Your Son as my Savior." Then pray, "Lord Jesus,
please save me, and let me know I'm saved. For Christ's sake, Amen." Try it.
It's never failed one sinner in over 1,900 years, and it won't fail you.
"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
[27:54 - 30:06] [1989 Broadcast]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: I must have talked with him 30 minutes, and that fellow
sat there, and the blood just drained out of his face, and he leaned back in
that chair looking like a man in a hurricane. And after about 35 minutes, I
thought it was about right, and I got up and started across the desk, and I
said, "Now, Doc," I said, "if you will the best way you know how receive the
Lord Jesus," got my hand right on his desk, and the telephone rang right by my
hand. Right by my hand. And that fellow shook his head like this, and reached
and picked it up, and it was an emergency call... Pulled that volume down, got
that mic up, and said, "If you ever trusted Christ your Savior, blink your
lights." And this guy didn't blink his lights. And I said, "If you will trust
Christ your Savior the best way you know how, blink your lights." So we got up,
sat down in the living room, and he sat on the couch, and I sat in front of him,
witnessed to him, and laid the claim to Christ on him, gave him the gospel. He
listened, he listened. Didn't get smart-aleck, didn't get rough, listened. Just
slow, been demon-ridden for a while. Wife been praying for him about 15 years.
And I said, "Henry, I said, you ought to get saved." He said, "Well, I reckon
every man ought to do that." I said, "Henry, if you will the best way you know
how..." "Wah!" in the back room. Two of the kids got in a fight. Henry got up
and said, "Excuse me, preacher." Got up and went back in the back room, broke up
the fight, came back in and sat down again. I started all over again, you know.
"Every man at his best state is altogether vanity. The wages of sin is death,
the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. I saw the great
white throne, him that sat upon it, whose face heaven and earth fled away, no
place found for them. I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God," and
all that stuff. And I got down then, and I said, "Henry, wouldn't you like to
receive the Lord Jesus Christ your Savior?" Just about that time, bam! in the
back room. Crash! The four-year-old had leaned back too far in the rocking
chair, and the rocking chair had gone over, and the kid smacked his head on the
floor. Henry said, "Excuse me, preacher." Got up, went back there. I was getting
in a panic. And I said, "Lord, do something! Do something, do something! Don't
let this fellow go to hell." I said, "Do something!" And he came back in, and
sat down, looked at me, and I looked at him. And I said, "Henry, the Bible says,
'As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even
to them that believe on his name.'" And I said, "If you will the best way you
know how receive..." Beep! horn outside. Some guy drove up in a pickup truck
with a horse, some horse trader came out there. Henry got up and said, "Excuse
me, preacher." Walked out in the porch.
[30:07 - 31:47] [1999 Harmonica Audio]
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman: And another thing, that bass, you can't set it until he's
taken it down. He's got to ease his rubber worm. If he pull that thing too
quick, you know what happens. You take a trout, you like uh I don't know, a
speckled trout down there, you rip his jaw off, and that's called a weakfish.
You've got to He made me like fishers. "Follow make uh Follow me, I'll make you
become fishers of men." And so you've got to be careful now. Get up there, don't
get the fish in the boat and then gaff him. All right, you got you got you got a
guy up there and said, "Now just take my hand." You take take the hand. "Now you
don't know the words to ask Christ to save you." Now he may begin to pray and he
may not. If he doesn't, don't quit. If he doesn't pray, say, "Well, all right,
you didn't mean business, so well, I don't..." Don't do that now. See, you
didn't listen. See? Say if the guy didn't pray, say, "Well, all right, I'm going
to pray, you listen to me pray, and I'll show you how to pray. And if you can
mean what prayer I pray, you pray it, and if you don't mean it, don't pray it.
If I say anything you don't mean, don't follow me, but if I say something you
can pray sincerely, pray it." And you pray. You pray, "Lord God, I know I'm a
sinner." You start off that way. That's safe, he's already admitted that, he
wouldn't be talking with you. See, you ease him into it. Sometimes I have the
guy bow his head and say, "Our Father which art in heaven," which of course
doctrinally is incorrect, God's not his Father, but don't let doctrine mess you
up at a time like this. See? Have him say, "Our Father which art in heaven, I
know I'm a sinner, and I don't want to go to hell when I die." See? "And the
best way I know how, I'm going to trust your Son as my Savior." And then you
have him pray, "Lord Jesus, I do receive you the best way I know how. Thank you
for dying for my sins. I do trust you as my personal Savior." Something like
that. I always have him pray and, "Lord, fill me with the Holy Spirit."
Here's everytime he said it in the books I own.
"As you talk to a person and you get down to the point where you want him to receive Christ, put your hand out and say, 'Would you like to receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour?' 'Yes.' 'Then if you will, the best way you know how, receive Him for salvation, take my hand.' People are used to a handshake; it is a common gesture." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Soulwinning, 10. How to get a decision
"If that person is under conviction, he will take your hand. Now take your time; don't rush things. I have had a man sit there in a sweat, his hand two inches from mine, debating in his mind whether or not to take my hand. I gave him a little time and said again, 'If you will, the best way you know how, receive Christ as your Saviour, take my hand.' He did eventually, but it took a little time for him to make the commitment. If he won't take your hand, don't press the matter; let it go till another time." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Soulwinning, 10. How to get a decision
"There are all kinds of ways of getting a decision if the proposition is right. Some of the brethren say, 'I just don't believe a person can get saved by coming down an aisle and shaking the preacher's hand.' Of course not! But if the proposition is, 'If you will receive Christ as your Saviour the best way you know how, then come down the aisle and take the preacher's hand,' then that will do it. You see, it was not coming down the aisle and shaking the preacher's hand that saved the person; it was receiving Jesus Christ as Saviour." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Soulwinning, Appendix 3
"I had never seen a man in worse condition in all my life up to that point. His eyes were blinking, his face was white, and he acted like he was paralyzed in a trance, just staring at me. I witnessed to him for about thirty minutes, and I thought he was ready to trust Christ. I put my hand out to him across his desk and said, 'Doctor, if you will accept Christ the best way you know how . . . ,' and at that moment, the telephone rang. For a moment, he looked at me like he didn't hear the telephone, but at the second ring, he shook his head, snapped out of it, and answered the phone. It was an emergency call, so he had to leave. I never saw him again. The next day I had to get back to school and didn't get a chance to see him again. The last I heard, his family was busted up, and he lived alone, drinking himself to death. The devil knew just when to step in." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Soulwinning, Appendix 3
"The prayer I usually have someone pray goes something like this: 'Dear Lord, I know I'm a sinner, and I don't want to go to hell when I die . . . .' I have never had anyone stop there. They all agree to that. '. . . I am coming to you the best way I know how . . . .' It's not whether you believe enough or repent enough or say the right words; it's coming to Jesus Christ the best way you know how. If you do that, you have the promise that He won't cast you out (John 6:37). '. . . Please save me, let me know I'm saved, and fill me with the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name, amen.'" - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, soulwinning, Appendix 3
"You say, 'Do you expect to meet that fellow in heaven?' I do. 'Now don't tell me, Ruckman, that blinking your lights will save you.' You missed the point. I gave him a straight proposition on salvation, and he gave me an answer to that proposition that he agreed to it. If I said, 'If you will, the best way you know how, trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and quit trusting yourself, but trust His shed blood to save your soul . . . ,' that will save you no matter what I told you to do next." - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Soulwinning, Appendix 3
"I wouldn't take a million bucks for that. Alongside that, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are paupers. And if you are lost and happen to be reading this, I tricked you again. In telling Christians how to lead a lost person to Jesus Christ, I have told you how to be saved. Won't you come to Jesus Christ the best way you know how, trusting only in His shed blood and righteousness to take away your sins and get you to heaven? Won't you call on the name of the Lord and be saved?" - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, Soulwinning, Appendix 3
"Then next time he came back I decided to 'strike while the iron was hot.' I extended my hand and said, 'Henry, if you will, the best way you know how, receive the Lord Jesus as your...' Beeep! Some horse trader had hauled up into the driveway with a horse in the back of a pick-up truck. Henry got up again: ''Scuse me, preacher.' I collapsed. I got down on my knees after he left and cried out: 'Oh God, do something for that bird. Blow up the truck, kill that horse, do something. I don't care what you do, but Lord, in Jesus' name, for Jesus' sake, will you please overrule the Devil and give this man a chance!'" - Dr.
In Jesus' name, amen.'" Back came Henry." - Job Commentary, Chapter 26
"Case No. 2. I was preaching on the street corner near a university town. About forty people, passing by, stayed to watch the chalk talk. At the conclusion I turned to the crowd and said, 'If any man of you would like to receive the Lord Jesus Christ, step forward and take one of these tracts out of my hand. Don't do it if you are already saved, but if you will receive Christ today, the best way you know how, step forward. The tract is free.' Three men accepted on this basis. I walked up close to the crowd, and in going from one man to another, I found myself looking at four young men with blue 'beenies' on their heads. Each one had a beeny with a white 'F' on it. I asked the young men: 'Hey, are you guys saved?' And do you know what happened? So help me Nashville, all four of those birds—just like they were plugged into one transformer—raised their right hands and pointed with a forefinger to the 'F' on their caps. Not one of them said a word." - Job Commentary, Chapter 31.
"'Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and unless you save me, I am lost forever. I now come to you, the best way I know how, and ask you to save me. I receive you as my Saviour and trust you to forgive and justify me, and present me without fault before God's throne in the day of Judgment.'" - The Simplicity of Salvation
"That is the invitation. Neither your church, your baptism, nor your good works can save you; you must trust Jesus Christ alone, by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8–9). It's very simple. Wherever you are, bow your head and pray a simple prayer something like this:
'Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and unless you save me, I am lost forever. I now come to you, the best way I know how, and ask you to save me. I receive you as my Saviour and trust you to forgive me and justify me and present me without fault before God's throne in the day of judgment.'" - The Restoration of Israel, Would you like to know how to be saved?
"If God is willing to save you (and He is: 2 Pet. 3:9, which is no reference to any 'elect' at all), and Jesus Christ is able to save you—and He certainly is according to Hebrews 7:25—what is it that would keep you or anyone from getting saved right now? Right this minute? If you don't believe that Jesus Christ was a liar or that John made Him lie, why don't you say (right now), 'I believe it. I am coming to thee now! I believe you died for my sins. I am coming the best way I know how. Here is my heart, dirty or not. Please save my poor soul, pardon me, and take me home to Heaven when I die.' Do THAT and see if it works." - John Commentary, Chapter 6
