The Privileged Life: Promises Kept
An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,

While everyone else today is celebrating Pie Day, I’m thankful for something more significant to me…it’s the 30thanniversary of the day my husband proposed to me.
In a day and age when marriage is either being postponed, modified to meet individual demands, or disregarded altogether, I have a message for younger people: when a man and woman make a lifelong commitment to each other, vow it publicly in a marriage ceremony, and stick with it, the rewards are astounding. It’s not easy, but with Christ at the center, it is so worth every sacrifice you make.
Thirty years ago, it was an instant “yes” from me when my husband pulled out his Bible, read those words above to me (that entire passage actually), and asked me to marry him as we sat together in an old church pew. I had no idea what would lie ahead for us. But I knew the man who would walk beside me every step of the way. I trusted that he would be faithful and true, and he has been.
In the same way, I have found that the promise of love from God has been a promise well kept. He never fails to make good on His promises, even when we fall short. He is faithful and true in a way that we can never be, and He loves us anyway.
If you’re married, give your spouse a special hug tonight…marriage can be a very good thing when both parties make an effort to be more selfless and less self-centered. If you’re not married, look for the one who sees marriage as the lifelong journey it’s supposed to be.
After three decades, we still have an imperfect marriage. But I can honestly say that I wouldn’t trade a day with my husband for anyone else. I love him differently now, more deeply, with even more commitment than I could have imagined long ago. Marriage is still a very good thing. I praise God for His faithful promises to both of us.
(And by the way, it’s significant that this is also Pie Day…because my husband’s favorite of all the things I cook for him is a peach-blueberry pie. 🙂
Lord, You have been a faithful friend to both of us. You have helped us stand together when our marriage might have fallen apart. You are the cord that binds us together in three strands, and You give us hope for the future. Thank You for Your beautiful design for marriage. I am forever grateful to You for our life together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
