The “Uncertainty Pledge” - The DV Walking Wounded:

Escaping domestic abuse is always uncertain, which can be what drives victims to return to their abusers — this is a NO judgement zone, so if this is you, no worries.
It can be scary, but keep telling yourself “BUT it’s not written yet!”
The other day, I was super anxious and having a hard time. God must’ve had control of my social media, because this is what came to my attention: “The Uncertainty Pledge.” YESSSSSSSS! It was SO needed! I felt an overwhelming sense of calm repeating that a few times, out loud

Here is a text version of the graphic:
💜The Uncertainty Pledge💜
Whenever I feel the anxious, queasy energy of uncertainty and notice myself overplanning, overthinking and grasping for control, I place my hand on my heart and gently remind myself, ‘Uncertainty is where possibility lives. Uncertainty is where freedom lives. Uncertainty is where hope lives.’ 🙏🏽

Who wrote this lovely affirmation? That would be Nicola Jane Hobbs. Google Books describes her as “Nicola Jane Hobbs has a passion for helping people eat, move, and live with less fear and more freedom. She has a Master’s degree in psychology, specializing in Eating and Exercise Psychology and is a qualified nutritionist and certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. Nicola also teaches yoga internationally and is the author of Thrive Through Yoga and i, both published by Bloomsbury. www.NicolaJaneHobbs.com.”
However, I like the author’s explanation better: “I am a psychologist, writer, consultant and mother with a special fascination in the psychology of rest.
My research and writing focuses on the social and psychological barriers that prevent women from getting the rest they need and I love supporting women overcome these barriers through coaching and workshops, as well as through my weekly newsletters and via social media:

She has a book coming out July 01, 2025 called The Relaxed Woman. It is NOW on my TBR list
So, please use this affirmation regularly, as you see fit. It is a personal affirmation or commitment to embrace uncertainty rather than fearing it. It acknowledges that while uncertainty can be unsettling, it also holds opportunities for growth, freedom, and hope. A broader version, the Democracy Fund‘s “A Pledge to Get Through This Together,” which outlines a collective commitment to navigate challenging times by choosing hope, sticking together, and practicing solidarity
This affirmation, if used regularly, can help you embrace change, squash over planning and helplessness, cultivate resilience, choose hope over dread, and focus on being present. it helped me to manage my anxiety.
I will leave you with this, that I also absolutely LOVE. On her Instagram, Dr LeeAnn Renninger, who regularly shares the Uncertainty Pledge, states: “I like the idea of quelling nervousness with a hand-on-heart reminder that uncertainty is the door to aliveness.”
Now, go forth and live your life on YOUR TERMS — not ruled by fear! Love and light! <3
