To the Teen Who’s Embarrassed of Mom

Faith

Oh yes you did.

You rolled your eyes.

And covered your face.

And eagerly walked away

from the one who

carried you for nine months–

and has carried you ever since.

The hugs you once demanded

are becoming rare,

now that you think you’re “too old” for Mom’s affection.

But time is slipping away,

and she struggles because you are

slipping

away

too.

Growing up means

the changes that are coming are real,

and important–

but none of them more real

than

your

mother’s

unchanging

love.

You will go your own way.

You will take the next step.

But

always

remember

that

you

are

taking

a

part

of

her

heart

with you.

Don’t forget to tell your mom how much you love her while you can.  One day she will be the one slipping away, and then it will be your turn to lose a part of your heart.   Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!  I love you more than words could say…

“The one who pursues righteousness and faithful love will find life, righteousness, and honor.”  Proverbs 21:21
