What Does God Say About Me - The Beautiful Truth of How God Sees You - The Grace to Grow
What does God say about me? What does God think of me? Surely I’ve failed too often. I don’t even want to know how God sees me. A failure, a sinner, a liar, a hider. That must be how God sees me.
Actually… no. What I wrote above is what we often think of ourselves. But for the Christian child of God, God sees a beautiful picture when he looks at you.

You and I are surrounded by lies. When the lies get deep, as they tend to do, we lose track of truth. The louder the lies shout, the harder truth is to find.
We’re told stories about who we are from a very young age. Shy, dramatic, bossy, loud, smart, pretty, slow, chubby, skinny, funny, serious, dense.
And let’s not forget the stories we tell ourselves. What we tend to do is take those stories we’ve been told, and then we compound them. We fixate on them.
We might have moments where we want to shed those stories, but what usually happens, is we convince ourselves why those stories are true.
There’s a lot of stories. I don’t deny that. But the most important story we can tell ourselves is the one that happens between our ears. The conversation that you have with yourself in your mind. The words you allow yourself to believe.
In that space between your ears, you need to focus on truth. Not what your “friend” said. Or your neighbor, or your dad, or your spouse or your self… You need to focus on what God said. The truth.
Who Does God Say About Me
YOU ARE LOVED
I want you to remember something the next time you ask yourself, “Who does God say I am?” I want you to remember something the next time you’re made to feel like you have no worth. And I want you to remember something when you’re tired and let the lies get louder than the truth.
Ready? God says YOU. ARE. LOVED.
John 3:16 speaks of the gravity of God’s love so clearly: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life.”
What a love to leave a heavenly and eternal throne to come to earth. Earth, where our sin has caused such brokenness and decay. Where pain is pervasive and real. Earth, where as a human race, our pride has caused death, destruction, oppression, fear and injustice.
He didn’t just come. Jesus served. He poured himself out to death. In order to save you and me.
Did he do it just for the perfect people? The people who had it all together? The people that “deserved” that grace? No. There’s no one that deserves such grace.
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
While we were still sinners. Well, that’s good news, because I still am a sinner. How about you?

YOU HAVE WORTH
It says in Genesis 1, that we were created in the image of God. And Genesis 2 paints the picture of him bending low, breathing life into our nostrils.
Psalm 139:15 says, “My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.”
This language is not used for any other creature that was created. Just the human. Intricately woven. God knows us intimately.
When you ask yourself, “What does God see when he looks at me?” you can answer with this truth:
If you’re looking at God, you are radiant. Psalm 34:5 says “Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.”
Are you carrying shame? Drop it. Look to God and drop it.
“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.“ – Matthew 6:26-33
What do those 2 passages, one Old Testament, and one New Testament have in common? A couple things.
- You are valuable
- You must look to God and seek him
When you look to God, when you SEEK his face, that is when you find truth. That is when you find the answer to What does God say About Me.

YOU ARE MADE NEW AND FULL OF THE SPIRIT
“For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” – 1st Corinthians 15:22
“We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” – Romans 6:9-11
Just as Adam believed a lie and was cursed to death, so are we. BUT. In Christ we are made new. Christ has dominion over sin and death.
And do you see what it says there? We must also consider ourselves dead to sin. This means we must think on that. Consider it. Believe it. Lies, sin and death no longer have dominion over us.
Light, life and truth enter our lives through Christ and the spirit.
“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” – Romans 8:11
What will you cling to? The old you? The one that leads to death and darkness? Or the new one? The new you. The you that has been made alive in Christ, through his Spirit. Through the new one only will you find light, life and truth.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2nd Corinthians 5:17
YOU ARE TRANSFORMING
What beautiful news this is. You are who God says you are, and God says you are being transformed, renewed, refined.
When you wonder, how does God see me, you can be sure that he sees you as a child of God that he is fully at work in.
When you wonder, what does God think of me, you can be sure that he thinks you’re worth the effort of refining.
“But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”-2nd Corinthians3:16-18
TURN to the Lord… and be transformed, from one degree of glory to another.
“Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” – Colossians 3:9-10
Do not LIE (or believe lies). Put off the old self- put on the new. The new self is being renewed after the image of the creator. That’s YOU being transformed! Embrace that truth.

“for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.” – Galatians 3:26
“So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” – Galatians 4:7
The Bible makes it clear that if we come to God, through faith in Christ, we are heirs. His children. And his representatives on earth.
“But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles—to whom I am sending you to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’” – Acts 26:16-18
How will you appear as his witness? Will you show up trying to cling desperately to your old self? Or will you acknowledge that the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead also lives in you? And will you live boldly in the truth of who God says you are, and what God says about you?
What Does God Say About Me
- You are loved
- You are worthy and valuable
- You are made new & full of the Spirit
- You are transforming
- You are his child & his witness
Seek God through his word. Commune with him in prayer. Seek out the quiet moments and get to know him. When you saturate yourself in his truth, his presence and his word, the lies begin to quiet.
As you do those things, you will not question
- How does God see me?
- What does God say about me
- What does God think about me OR
- Who does God say I am
As you soak yourself in the truth, you will begin to transform, and the truth will be imprinted in your heart & in your mind.
You are loved. Worthy and valuable. You are made new. You’re full of the Spirit. Transforming.
A child of God. You are his witness.
