When making the right choice is painful.
Good day beautiful people
I hope that this post meets you well? Today I want to remind us all that sometimes doing the right thing can be painful in the moment, but the end result will always be glorious, because living a life which pleases God will always reap beneficial results. I believe that one of the hardest prayers to pray, is to ask God to close open doors which we’re not meant to walk through (Proverbs 14:12 ~ There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death). It’s a prayer of complete surrender, forgoing a ‘seemingly’ once in a life time opportunity, in order for the will of God to be done in our lives.
There are certain decisions which we make that can cause others to turn their back’s on us, or even mock us. It’s common in certain parts of the world for people to be persecuted (lose their home/livelihood) for giving their life to Christ. But the end result of such a great decision is ETERNAL LIFE. I want to encourage you today not to give up on doing good, even when it hurts and doesn’t make sense, because in the end you’ll reap a GOOD REWARD, hallelujah. And as always I like to look to God’s word as a source of encouragement.
Galatians 6:9 ~ “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
Some biblical examples….
Joseph and Potiphar’s wife.
Joseph spent many years in prison for doing the right thing! For choosing not to have an affair with his bosses wife, Joseph was unjustly accused and thrown into prison. Now it was whilst he was in chains that God was able to build up the character Joseph needed, to become a leader of a nation. After his release Joseph became second in command over Egyptian territory.
Genesis 39:10-23 ~ “She kept putting pressure on Joseph day after day, but he refused to sleep with her, and he kept out of her way as much as possible. One day, however, no one else was around when he went in to do his work. She came and grabbed him by his cloak, demanding, “Come on, sleep with me!” Joseph tore himself away, but he left his cloak in her hand as he ran from the house. When she saw that she was holding his cloak and he had fled, she called out to her servants. Soon all the men came running. “Look!” she said. “My husband has brought this Hebrew slave here to make fools of us! He came into my room to rape me, but I screamed. When he heard me scream, he ran outside and got away, but he left his cloak behind with me.” She kept the cloak with her until her husband came home. Then she told him her story. “That Hebrew slave you’ve brought into our house tried to come in and fool around with me,” she said. “But when I screamed, he ran outside, leaving his cloak with me!” Potiphar was furious when he heard his wife’s story about how Joseph had treated her. So he took Joseph and threw him into the prison where the king’s prisoners were held, and there he remained. But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love. And the Lord made Joseph a favorite with the prison warden. Before long, the warden put Joseph in charge of all the other prisoners and over everything that happened in the prison. The warden had no more worries, because Joseph took care of everything. The Lord was with him and caused everything he did to succeed”.
Genesis 41:37-40 ~ “Joseph’s suggestions were well received by Pharaoh and his officials. So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.”
Paul appeals to Caesar.
Paul’s journey to Rome wasn’t a smooth one, he got shipwrecked along the way and ended up in Malta. Paul’s presence on the island was an opportunity for God’s glory to be displayed before many individuals, through the healing of the sick. The people of Malta also helped provide the needs of those headed to Rome. I’m sure that during the moments where crashing waves hammered the ships exterior, Paul alongside the sailors must have felt concerned, but Paul had the peace of God which surpasses all human understanding within him! Paul appealing to Caesar meant that MORE people got to hear the gospel! This is a beautiful outcome because it’s not God’s desire for any to perish, but for ALL to be saved.
Acts 27:27 ~ About midnight on the fourteenth night of the storm, as we were being driven across the Sea of Adria, the sailors sensed land was near.
Acts 27:44 ~ The others held on to planks or debris from the broken ship. So everyone escaped safe.
Acts 28:9-10 ~ “Then all the other sick people on the island came and were healed. As a result we were showered with honors, and when the time came to sail, people supplied us with everything we would need for the trip.”
Acts 28:19-20 ~ “But when the Jewish leaders protested the decision, I felt it necessary to appeal to Caesar, even though I had no desire to press charges against my own people. I asked you to come here today so we could get acquainted and so I could explain to you that I am bound with this chain because I believe that the hope of Israel the Messiah has already come.”
I know that in our moments of difficulty it can be very hard to have hope, which makes it extremely important for us to surround ourselves with people who’ll be able to support us on our journeys. People willing to pray for us and stand by us. We’re not to live alone or isolated.
