Whom Shall I Fear: Finding Unshakeable Courage in Faith

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" - Psalm 27:1

Isn’t it amazing how just a few words from the Bible can offer us so much comfort and strength?

This verse from Psalm 27:1 does exactly that. It reminds us that we have nothing to fear when God is with us.

When we think about light, what comes to mind?

Maybe it’s how the sun lights up a room or how a flashlight cuts through the darkness. In this verse, when it says, “The Lord is my light,” it’s like saying God shows us the way and helps us see things clearly, even when life gets confusing or scary.

Then there’s the word “salvation.” It’s a big word, but it’s about safety and protection. It’s like having someone always there to rescue us when we’re in trouble. And that’s what God is for us – a protector who keeps us safe.

So, when the verse asks, “Whom shall I fear?” it’s a way of saying that with God on our side, we don’t need to be afraid of anything or anyone.

It’s like having a strong, powerful friend always there to help us.

Think about a time when you were really scared. Maybe it was during a thunderstorm or when you had to face something tough. Imagine how different it would feel if you knew someone strong and brave was with you.

That’s the kind of difference God makes in our lives.

But it’s not just about not being scared. The verse also talks about God being the “stronghold” of our life. A stronghold is like a safe place or a fortress where you can go when things get rough.

It’s the place where you feel secure and protected. That’s what God is for us – a safe place where we can go whenever we need.

What’s beautiful about this verse is that it doesn’t say we will ever face dark or scary times. Instead, it tells us that when those times come, we have a light and a safe place in God. It’s like having a safe path through every stormy part of life.

So, what does all this mean for us in our everyday lives? Well, it means that no matter what we’re going through – whether we’re dealing with something big or just everyday worries – we can remember that God is with us. We don’t have to be afraid because we have the best protector and guide.

And when we truly believe and trust in this, something wonderful happens – we find courage in us that we didn’t even know we had. It’s not just any courage, but an unshakeable one that comes from knowing God is always there.

Thus, let’s hold onto this beautiful truth: With God as our light and protector, there’s nobody and nothing that can make us afraid. This is the kind of courage and peace we find in our faith, and it’s something worth sharing and living every day.

When God Throws a Little Bit of “All Things” in Your Life

I love Romans 8:28. Now, let me be honest…sometimes I don’t. When I am going through a dark time of loss or disappointment, and someone throws a sloppy coat of Romans 8:28 on my open wound, I just want to scream. There. I said it. Paul wrote: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, Read more...

What does it mean to have childlike faith?

What do you think of when you hear the word “childlike?”For many of us, “childlike” might bring to mind something immature, foolish, or naive. Yet when Jesus talked about childlike faith, he wasn’t asking us to be any of these things. He was inviting us into something pure, trusting, and real. This week, I got to help lead worship at a kids' camp. Watching the kids worship was such a beautiful reminder of what childlike faith truly looks like. These kids worshiped, prayed, and talked about God.
