Why did God created marriage?

Why did God created marriage?

Read Genesis 1 and 2

God said ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness’ (vs 26).’So God created man in his own image’ (vs 27).When we put these sentences together, a question jumps out. Why does the plural (us, our) in verse 26 become singular (his) in verse 27?

One answer must be that we have a pointer here to the fact, revealed more fully later in the Bible, that God is Three-in-One. Our God is not a solitary being but rather a community of beings in relationship from all eternity. This God created us to be in relationship with Himself.

“This is eternal life that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3)

We now know God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Family values such as love, belonging, communication and intimacy flow from His person and character.

It is proper to say that God is a family God or a God in family. (We can understand the idea even if it is hard to find the right words!)

This gives special significance to family today and especially tothe husband and wife relationship.

We demonstrate the image of God in our rule of the world and in our relationships with God and one another. We also portray the image of God in our maleness and femaleness. We read “Male and female, He created them. And God blessed them” (vs 27-28).

Here is the start of the idea of people in relationship reflecting the image of the God who is in relationship.
