You Don’t Have to Hide Here.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus…” —Romans 8:1 (KJV)
Have you ever struggled with something for so long that you became ashamed to talk about it, even with God?
Perhaps you fell into the same sin you promised yourself you would never return to.
Maybe your prayer life has been inconsistent, your faith feels weak, or you have questions you are afraid other Christians will judge you for asking.
So you hide. You avoid conversations, pretend everything is fine, and sometimes even withdraw from God because you feel you should know better by now.
But here’s something worth remembering: shame makes you believe you must hide until you are better, while grace invites you to come to God so He can help you grow.
In Genesis 3, after Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from God. Shame entered their experience, and their immediate response was to cover themselves and retreat from His presence. Yet God came looking for them.
Think about that for a moment.
God knew what they had done, yet He called out to them.
Perhaps you have been carrying something you believe makes you less deserving of God’s love. Perhaps you have confused conviction with condemnation, or assumed that struggling with an area of your life means you are failing as a Christian.
But your struggle is not an invitation to run away from God. It is an opportunity to bring that struggle into His light.
This doesn’t mean sin is inconsequential or that we should become comfortable with the things God is calling us to change.
Grace does not excuse sin; it makes room for repentance, restoration, and transformation.
And sometimes, healing begins when we stop pretending.
You can acknowledge that you are struggling without defining yourself by that struggle.
You can admit that you made a mistake without believing that your mistake is the sum of who you are. You can ask for help without feeling that you have failed as a Christian.
God’s grace is not a reward for people who have everything together. It is the gift through which we find forgiveness, help, and the strength to keep growing.
At The Growing Christian Community, we believe that growth should not require pretending. We want to create room for honest conversations about our faith, our weaknesses, our questions, our mistakes, and the things we are still learning to surrender to God.
You do not have to pretend to be perfect to belong in a community of people who are growing.
You do, however, deserve a community that points you towards truth, encourages accountability, and reminds you of the saving and healing grace available in Christ.
So, whatever you have been hiding, consider this your reminder: you can bring it to God. Seek His forgiveness where you have sinned, His healing where you have been wounded, and His wisdom where you need direction.
You are not beyond His reach.
You are not disqualified from growth.
And you do not have to let shame have the final word over your life.
Come out of hiding. There is grace for your journey, and there is still room to grow.
What is one thing you have been ashamed to bring to God or talk about with someone you trust?
You don’t have to share it publicly. Start by being honest with God.
A Prayer
Father, help me recognise the difference between Your correction and the condemnation that makes me want to hide. Give me the courage to be honest about my struggles, the humility to receive correction, and the grace to keep growing. Remind me that my failures do not have to define me and that, through Christ, forgiveness and restoration are available to me. Teach me to walk in Your light and to extend to others the same grace You have shown me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
