Welcome to day 29 of our 30 Days of Prayer series. One day left before this series is complete! I cannot believe it.

Today we are discussing the basics of victory in spiritual warfare. And, friend, this one is a total passion piece. This topic is so profoundly important that it is the culmination of our most fundamental beliefs.
It is in this sector of our prayer life where we truly lean into the glory of partnering with God as co-laborers upon this earth.
Let’s dive in.

Have you ever experienced victory in spiritual warfare? Do you even know what it means to engage in spiritual warfare?
If you have been reading along in this 30 days of prayer, you may have even experienced an increase in spiritual attack without even realizing that this is what was happening.
Have things gotten a little worse since you have committed to a more diligent prayer life? Did tensions rise in the house, or maybe things start breaking (car, other technology in the home, etc)? Or maybe anxieties and fears have risen exponentially within you?

All of these things can be heavily attributed to spiritual attack…depending on where you tend to struggle with your armor.
The enemy knows just where to jab and punch us to get us off course and distracted from the race. It is our job to learn his strategies so we can pivot when he jabs, and then sucker punch him in defeat.
But, before we can claim our victory in spiritual warfare, we must first understand that there is indeed a spiritual battle being waged.
Scripture makes it clear that we are spiritual beings first and then physical. The same is true of this world that we see all around us: spiritual first and then physical. In other words, what happens in the spiritual realm is what manifests in the physical world.
If spiritual sickness and disease is in effect with an outpouring of doubt, fear, distrust, loss of hope, anger, selfishness, pride, etc., then we can be sure that we will experience a diseased, fearful, hopeless, flesh-based world around us in the physical.
Sound familiar? It should, because this is very much so the reality of the world we live in today. But, it can be restored. Nothing is impossible with God.
If we want to see restoration and victory in the physical world, we must first go to war in the spiritual world for the victory is first achieved there to be experienced here.
So, how in the world do we do this? Therein lies the biggest question of all: HOW do we achieve victory in spiritual warfare?

The first and foremost word that comes to mind is perseverance.
We cannot throw a bone to prayer and expect miraculous results in our lives. This is foolishness and dismissive of the concept of reaping and sowing. Yes, we need to do the work in the physical world if we want to experience the fruits of our labor. But it is even more important for our prayers go before the work that we do.
Think of it this way. If I want to build a highway through a forest, I first need to cut down all the trees and shrubbery that are in the way. Only once the path has been cleared will I then be able to begin the process of digging up the ground, laying the foundation of the new road, and finishing the work to allow cars to ride on it.
If I don’t first clear the trees from the path I want to create I in effect make my workload 100x more difficult because I’ll have to chop down a tree each step of the way.
Spiritual warfare is the equivalent of taking a bulldozer to a forest to make way for future road plans.
What we don’t often realize is that the hindrances and things that get in the way of our goals and desires are like spiritual trees that have not yet been cut down. When we first take our stand in the spiritual world for the work we feel led to do in the physical world, we are preparing the land in both locations for what is to come.
I know that this concept might be foreign to some people. Not everyone thinks with this perspective, but that does not make it any less true.
So, the question remains, HOW do we battle for victory in spiritual warfare?
This is one of those topics that could go on and on in explanation, so I am going to do my very best to be as concise as possible.
First, take your requests to God in prayer.
Yes, He may already know what it is that you have a desire to accomplish, especially because these desires are often initiated by the Spirit to use our gifts and talents for the glory of God. But, He wants YOU to bring Him into the conversation and invite His power into the event.
Remember, God is a God of boundaries. He has given man dominion over this earth, even though He designed this whole thing to function best with our intimate relationship with Him. So, that means that if we want this world to work optimally, including the fulfillment of our goals and heart’s desires, we must invite Him into the process as we co-labor alongside of Him.
He will not force Himself into the mix. That would not respect the boundaries He built into creation. He is a gentleman. He does not force Himself upon mankind. If we want Him to be involved, we need to invite Him into the project.
Next, ask for the Lord to bring specific biblical promises to your mind or your heart so that you can write these down and focus on each time it feels like things are not working out. Think of these promises as an anchor of Truth.
Recall, the enemy is going to do everything he can to try to take you off course. If you are starting a new work for the Lord, whether in actual work or in intercessory prayer, you are now public enemy #1 to him.
So, as he throws his fiery darts to feverishly try to convince you that you are going to fail, the promises of God are the strongest weapons to rebuke him and strengthen us.
Remember, the Word of God IS the sword of the Spirit. It is the greatest and most powerful weapon we have.
Then, begin the process of calling the power and strength of God and His army of angels to fight the spiritual battle for you. You have already asked for the desired outcome, so you don’t need to continue to ask for it. God heard you. He’s already answered. Now, it’s just a matter of the victory in the spiritual battle for the answer to arrive on earth.

This process can be quite emotionally consuming. Don’t be surprised if you have a welling up of tears, or crying out of emotion. The Spirit inside of you knows what is really going on, so you may surely feel some pouring out of the reality of the spiritual world. Follow that deep welling up and use it in your prayers.
You might feel a sadness or foreboding inside of you, and may even mistake it for depression. This too is a call for prayer. Bring it all to the Lord in the Spirit. Continue to pray for your protection from the enemy, and for the strength of God’s angels to fight the enemy for you.
Repeatedly affirm the promise(s) you’ve been given. And then give thanks and praise to God for the victory that He has promised.
When the lies of the enemy attack and tell you that you are worthless, inadequate, foolish, egocentric, and all other sorts of condemning words, you can stand on the Truth of God’s Word that He has provided you.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made. He made me with a purpose because I am made in His image. I am enough because I can do all things through Christ. My Abba loves me so much that even in my most sinful state He sent His Son to die for me. His grace is sufficient. Thank You, Abba, for your glorious victory in this plan! I can’t wait to see how You will accomplish it all!
Victory in spiritual warfare comes at a cost for us. We may lose time we would otherwise want to spend doing our pleasure. Or we may lose emotional energy to pour into other areas of our life. These things, though, are worth the cost if the desire we have is one we truly want.
Self-sacrifice in this sense is one of the greatest gifts we can give to the fight. And, it is what paves the way for the victory we so desperately want to experience.
Finally, stand firm in this place of prayer and confidence in the promises of God until the victory in spiritual warfare has been accomplished.
When your desire comes to fruition, the prayer has been answered. It is in this fulfillment that the battle has been won. And, this is the most blessed time to truly give praise to God for His strong power and great provision in the evil day.
Make no mistake; this is a “wash-rinse-and-repeat” kind of process. No lifelong war is won in a single battle. You and I and everyone who truly loves and walks with God will be called repeatedly to the fight. But, it is in the victory in spiritual warfare that our spiritual muscles are strengthened, so that the next fight is not quite so arduous.
The most often we go to battle, the stronger in the fight we become. When we are wrought with experience and practice, we are well aware of the tactics of the enemy. Evading his best efforts becomes easy and obvious to us.
If you are just starting your spiritual warfare efforts, this statement might seem grand. But, truly, the enemy is not nearly as creative as we like to give him credit for. He is a mimicker who truly only knows how to copy the great Work of God in an attempt to deceive and distract humanity.
It does not take very long to catch onto his patterns for attack. Lean in, do not be afraid, and remember above all else that you have the army of heaven behind you.

He is Always Stronger than the Enemy, even if it doesn’t seem like it at times.
Always remember that our Abba is the strongest and most powerful being. The enemy may think that he has any hope of victory, but when we truly wield the weapons we have, he is no threat against us at all. Stand firm.
Abba, thank You for this reminder to fight the good fight and diligently go to battle for the works You have laid on my heart to do. I can do nothing outside of Your power, so clear the path, Abba, for I want to build a road. You know the plans that You have put on my heart, and You know the best means to attain them. Show me the path.
Provide a clear promise for me to proclaim in this time of diligent work and labor with You.
I know that I have a tendency to be led astray, so help me to stay anchored to Your Truth in this time. Protect me from the darts of the enemy, and send out Your angels to war for Your glory! Thank You for Your answer to my prayer! I am eager to see it come to fruition. In Jesus’ name, amen.
You are a child of God, who is FAR more powerful than the enemy or his demons. We are assured of the victory because of this fact. Remember who you serve, and whose you are. And, never forget that your promise is secured.
