How to save money from Christian perspectives

Managing money can be tough, but the Bible gives us good advice on handling it wisely.

Here are five easy-to-follow steps that mix smart money choices with Christian beliefs to help you build a better financial and spiritual future.

1. Tithing

Tithing is a fundamental principle within Christianity. Before saving, allocate 10% of your income to your church or other charitable organizations.

While this might sound like the opposite of saving, it's a reminder that we should put God first in all areas of life, including finances.

2. Create a budget with prayerful consideration

Sit down and list all your sources of income and expenses. As you do this, pray for wisdom and guidance.

It's essential to know where your money is going so you can make informed decisions about what is necessary and what can be cut out.

3. Set Up an emergency fund

Proverbs 27:12 advises, "The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it."

It's wise to have an emergency fund that can cover three to six months of living expenses. This is not a lack of faith in God's provision but rather a wise move to prepare for unforeseen circumstances.

4. Avoid debt

Romans 13:8 tells us, "Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another." Avoid consumer debt like the plague.

If you are already in debt, make it a priority to pay it off as quickly as possible. The sooner you're debt-free, the sooner you can allocate those resources to saving and giving.

5. Invest wisely

Investing isn't gambling if done wisely. It's a way to grow the resources God has provided you.

Whether it's investing in a retirement fund, stock market, or other avenues, the goal is to grow your resources for future use and philanthropy.

God provides, but we need to save

Let us acknowledge God as the ultimate provider. However, this belief does not negate the need to save but provides a healthy perspective that prevents money from becoming an idol.

Money is a tool provided by God, and we are stewards of this resource.
