Breaking Free: A Prayer for Help with Addictions
Written by: Marianne White
“ For I know the plans I have for you, “ declares the Lord, “ plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” - Jeremiah 29:11
When addiction feels like an unshakable chain, it’s easy to believe that freedom is out of reach. But this reminds us of a powerful truth. This verse is a promise that God has a purpose for your life, one that is filled with hope, healing and a new beginning.
Right now, addiction may make your life feel chaotic and broken, but God’s plan for you is not defined by your past struggles. He sees beyond your pain, your failures, and the mistakes you’ve made. His desire is not to harm you but to lead you to a place of peace and wholeness. Even though the journey to freedom may be hard and filled with setbacks, remember that God walks with you every step of the way.
It tells us that no matter how lost you feel, your future is still secure in God’s hands. You may have moments when you doubt yourself, but know that God’s plan for you includes victory. His power is greater than any addiction you face, and with Him, recovery is not just a possibility, it’s a part of the future he wants for you.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed, let this verse remind you that God’s plan for your life is good, even if you can’t see it clearly right now. There is hope beyond this struggle, and you have a future filled with possibilities. Keep going, one day at a time, knowing that with every step, God is leading you closer to the freedom He has promised. You are not alone, and this addiction does not define your story,God does, and His plan for you is one of hope and restoration.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come before you today, weary, and in desperate need of Your strength. I confess that I am struggling with addiction, a burden that feels too heavy to bear on my own. Lord, I feel trapped in chains that seem impossible to break, yet I believe that with you, all things are possible. I call upon your power to help me find freedom from this struggle and peace within my soul.
Lord, I acknowledge that addiction has taken hold of me,not just in my body, but also in my mind and spirit. It pulls me away from the person you created me to be, leaving me feeling distant from you, from others, and from myself. I feel ashamed, weak, and lost, but I am choosing today to turn toward you because I know that you are the source of true healing. Lord, I am surrendering my brokenness at your feet, trusting that your love will carry me through.
Help me to admit that I cannot fight this battle alone. I need your guidance, Father, and the wisdom to take the right steps toward recovery. Surround me with people who will encourage me and hold me accountable. Give me the courage to ask for help, whether it be from friends, family, or professionals. Teach me to learn on others as I learn on you, and remind me that I am never alone in this fight.
Lord, in moments when I am tempted, when the craving feels unbearable, and when I feel overwhelmed by the urge to give in, please intervene.
Father, I also pray for healing over the root causes of my addiction, the pain, fear, shame, or emptiness that led me down this path. Shine your light on every hidden wound in my heart, and begin the process of restoration. Show me that I do not need to numb my emotions or escape reality, because you are more than enough to fill the void within me. Help me trust in your love and provision even when life feels hard. Give me the patience to walk this road, knowing that healing is a journey, not an instant fix.
Lord, I ask you to renew my mind every day. Teach me how to replace the lies of addiction with the truth of Your Word. When I feel unworthy, remind me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. And when I feel hopeless, remind me that you have plans to give me a future filled with hope.
Father, help me to forgive myself for the mistakes I have made, just as You have forgiven me through your son, Jesus Christ.
Lord, I surrender this addiction into your hands. I know that true freedom comes only from you. Your word says that if the Son sets us free, we are free indeed. I believe that you are working with me, even when I cannot see it yet. Help me to take each step forward in faith, no matter how small, trusting that you are leading me toward the abundant life you have promised.
Thank you, Father, God, for your unfailing love and mercy. Thank you for never giving up on me, even when I feel like giving up on myself. I praise you for the freedom and healing that you are bringing into my life. With you by my side, I believe that I will overcome this addiction. I trust in your power, and I rest in your peace.
In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen.
