Can Christians truly walk on water?

A figure appears in the silent evening light, floating on the agitated waves of the Sea of Galilee. It's not just any figure, though. It is Jesus, gracefully floating on the water and above the natural laws. For centuries, believers have been enthralled with this captivating scene from the Bible.

However, this event is more significant than it first appears, representing a symbolic journey through faith and doubt. Let us explore this ageless story and discover its truths.

Managing doubt

On the path of faith, doubt is a common ally. It can cast doubt on our beliefs and cause our faith to waver, much like a large shadow during uncertain times.

Consider Peter, who was among the closest disciples of Jesus. He exits the boat in the middle of a violent storm, staring at Jesus as He walks on water. But doubt seeps in, and he starts to sink as fear takes hold of his heart. Peter's moment of uncertainty illustrates how we struggle to maintain our faith in adversity.

But the Bible gives comfort even in the face of our uncertainties. James 1:6 and other verses encourage us to ask God for wisdom without reservation because a doubter is like a wave of the sea, tossed and blown by the wind. This helps us remember that doubts are normal and should not control our spiritual path.

Finding firm ground in faith

Where do we find solid ground for our faith in the ups and downs of life? It is based on having faith in God's word. From the Red Sea's parting to Jesus Christ's resurrection, the Bible demonstrates God's unwavering faithfulness to His people.

We can take concrete measures, such as reading the Bible and praying to strengthen our faith. Through spiritual disciplines, we can cultivate our faith like an athlete trains to build endurance.

Like Peter did when he walked out onto the water, walking in faith requires us to leave our comfort zones. It is about putting our faith in God's direction even when doubt threatens to overtake us.
