Finding Joy in Faith: Letting Gladness Dissolve Anxiety
“They seldom reflect on the days of their life because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.”-Ecclesiastes 5:20
The key to an anxiety-free life is simply to be filled with gladness. How simple that sounds, right?
But, with everything that occupies our mind right now, such as work, bills, relationships with our spouse, parents, children, and other people, happiness seems like a “too good to be true” dream for you and me.
The wisest and wealthiest king who ever lived on earth- King Solomon, advises that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink and to find satisfaction in his handwork.
More so, he emphasized that God gives us wealth and possessions and allows us to enjoy them. Accepting these things and enjoying them is a gift from God.
King Solomon says that those who can enjoy their work, wealth, and possessions seldom reflect on the days of their life because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.
I realized that the more we give ourselves time to reflect on the days of our lives, the more anxiety it brings to us. We compare the good days in the past to enjoying the present. It is like a domino effect that starts with reflection, then comparison, followed by complaints and regrets.
Then, eventually, we would end up unhappy and anxious about our current and future situation.
Thus, what shall we do to be filled with gladness in everything we do?
Simply enjoy every little and big thing in our lives. It is a gift from God, so we should cherish and embrace that gift of gladness in the Lord.
The good thing about claiming and receiving that gift of gladness from God is that it is something we can never find in the world but only in Him. We can see the world differently once we experience and enjoy that gift daily.
Day by day, we would realize that that anxious heart has been dissolved since we no longer have space for it, as God continues to occupy our hearts and minds with His gladness. What a wonderful feeling it could be, isn’t it?
Imagine, despite having a lot of struggles, pain, and trials, we still can be glad and praise God.
The more we let gladness destroy our anxieties, the less we become angry and sad. It would also affect the way we treat others and fulfill our dreams.
Have you noticed that those so preoccupied with worries are most likely the people who are irritated and become difficult people to others?
However, if we are occupied with undefined joy from God, we tend to love more, forgive more, understand more, and become more like Jesus towards others.
Thus, we can overcome anxiety, and it is possible, especially when God’s gladness fills us every single day of our lives. So we should long for that joy that only our Lord can give and no one else but Him.
The devil will always use every open door to occupy us with worries and fears, but when we are already occupied with God’s gladness, then there would be no room for the devil to steal, kill, and destroy our joy.
