For the Mom Who Has a Disconnected Child - A Nighttime Prayer

“There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’”

– John 16:12-15 (NLT)

Please Pray:

Dear Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

We meet again in this long “I don’t know” season. I bring my same anguished and broken heart. I bring my same trust in you. I am growing to trust you.

It is in these dark hours, just before my crazy mind falls asleep, that my fear circles the dark. This is my prayer.

Guard my heart from shame.

Silence the lie that tells me I could control this outcome if I just tried harder.

Help me resist the urge to jump to conclusions just to protect myself.

Give me courage to stay soft.

Keep my heart tender without letting it be frantic.

If distance is part of his healing, steady me. If a return is coming, prepare me. If silence continues, hold me.

Remind me that I am not the Savior—you are.

Holy Spirit, guide me into the truth I can bear today—and no more than that. Quiet my racing thoughts. Slow my breathing. Let me sleep without rehearsing worst-case endings.

And as you do, keep pursuing my son with your love and truth. This is my hope.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
