Mercy, Life, and Building Bring Forth Glory

New JerusalemIn my Bible reading Romans 9:23 stood out: “that He might make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared unto glory.”

We are earthen vessels (2 Cor. 4:7) but God desires to use us to make known the riches of His glory! This clearly points to New Jerusalem, the city “having the glory of God” (Rev. 21:11a). This is God’s mercy to us; He created us for this and is leading us through all the steps needed to realize His goal.

Then 9:26 says, “it shall be that in the place where it was said to them, You are not My people, there shall they be called sons of the living God.” To reach New Jerusalem we need God’s mercy and we also need God’s life. This life grows and spreads in us for the manifestation of His glory.

Furthermore 9:33 quotes Isaiah, saying, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling, a rock of offense, and he who believes on Him [the Stone] shall not be put to shame.” To believe on Christ as the Stone is to participate in being built on Him (1 Peter 2:4-8).

We need life for New Jerusalem and it is in this life that we all are being built together. Mercy, life, and building bring forth the display of “the riches of His glory.”
