How do we pray to God and get answers beyond our wildest imaginations? Pray like a child. Yes, you can pray with power in the simplicity of a child.

Mark 10:13-16

13 People were bringing little children to him, for him to touch them. The disciples scolded them,

14 but when Jesus saw this he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.

15 In truth I tell you, anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ 16 Then he embraced them, laid his hands on them and gave them his blessing

Be like a Child

How must we pray?

Do we go and read all those prayers in those little prayer books? Do we recite all those childhood prayers we learned as children?

Yes, that’s good and all but prayer is more than that.

Prayer is a relationship.

Prayer is going to God like children going to their father, asking their father to carry them.

I have a 3-year-old niece. And she’s always going like, “Where’s my daddy?” If she can’t find him, she cries. And if she finds him, she always asks to be carried in his arms. Or she’s just there sitting beside her dad while he’s watching TV or cleaning his bike, even when he’s cooking. She just loves to be with him.

Oh, she loves her mom too. She likes to sit on her mom’s lap when her mother is working on her online job.

She’s like that with me too, her aunt.

Children, whenever they have a need or a desire, they simply go to their parents or elders. They know their parents will do everything in their power to give it to them.

Oftentimes, their parents say no. But does that stop them from asking? No. They always ask. Until they either get it, or they get a firm no. And their parents give them something else so much better.

And it’s not just about asking. They go to their parents when they’re happy, or sad, or tired, or proud of something they did.

Their lives simply revolve around their parents.

God is our Father

In the same way, God is our Father.

We are children of the Living God, who created the universe in just a word.

We can go to Him for everything and anything.

And you know what?

He wants us to go to Him!

He wants our lives to revolve around Him.

You are not unloved or alone.

When you’re hurt, or sad, or sick, or in need of something, or just want to be held or just want somebody to listen, or you’re particularly proud of something you’ve done – you have a Father Who wants to share all these things with you.

Just be with Him, as a child to his father.

The power of prayer

When you pray like this, you can be anything. You can do anything. You can have anything.

As long as God wills it so. Because no good parent will give something that can eventually harm his child.

And God is good all the time. He’s always a Father.

Never stop praying

Since prayer is us having a relationship with God, our Father, we must never stop praying.

My niece goes about her business, sometimes playing alone or with her brother, sometimes she’s just drinking her milk watching videos on her iPad. Sometimes she doesn’t want to be with anyone, even her dad or her mom.

But after a time, she’s then looking for them, wanting to be in their presence.

Prayer shouldn’t be something we do just when we’re in need of something from God.

It should be a lifestyle of being with God, living with God.

We need not only to establish a prayer time but a prayer life.

A prayer time is when we set aside time just to be with God.

A prayer life is living your daily life with God. It’s when you’re always in His presence no matter what you’re doing at any moment.

Because God is always with us. We just need to be conscious about it. All the time.

Now your turn

Are you having difficulties in your life right now?

Don’t face it alone.

Go to God like a child to his Father. Pray like a child.

The kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.” Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them. Mark 10:13‭-‬16 MSG

When you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you can pray in power like the prophet Elijah, and get answers beyond your wildest imaginations:

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours [with the same physical, mental, and spiritual limitations and shortcomings], and he prayed intensely for it not to rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land produced its crops [as usual]. James 5:17‭-‬18 AMP

Don’t forget, you are a child of God. Every hair of your head He has counted. So no need to be afraid.

Pray like a child.
