The Annunciation: Say Yes to the Will of the Father | HealthWealthVictory

Do you want to please God? Let the Feast of the Annunciation remind us to say yes to the will of the Father. It’s the one thing we can do to live a life that pleases God.

Luke 1:26-38

26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,

27 to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

28 He went in and said to her, ‘Rejoice, you who enjoy God’s favor! The Lord is with you.’

29 She was deeply disturbed by these words and asked herself what this greeting could mean,

30 but the angel said to her, ‘Mary, do not be afraid; you have won God’s favour.

31 Look! You are to conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you must name him Jesus.

32 He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David;

33 he will rule over the House of Jacob for ever and his reign will have no end.’

34 Mary said to the angel, ‘But how can this come about, since I have no knowledge of man?’

35 The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. And so the child will be holy and will be called Son of God.

36 And I tell you this too: your cousin Elizabeth also, in her old age, has conceived a son, and she whom people called barren is now in her sixth month,

37 for nothing is impossible to God.’

38 Mary said, ‘You see before you the Lord’s servant, let it happen to me as you have said.’ And the angel left her.

The Annunciation

Today, we celebrate the Annunciation when the angel of the Lord gave Mary the greatest news earth had ever heard:

A Savior is given to us and Mary had been chosen to bear Him.

What favor! What grace!

Mary knew about the promised Savior, the Son of David, the Messiah, awaited for generations.

They’ve all been praying for Him to come.

And God has chosen her to be His mother?! The Messiah?

I have found this great favor with God?

But I already have plans.

What about Joseph, I’m already engaged to him. What will he say?

And speaking of Joseph, I haven’t been intimate with him, nor with any man. How can I conceive a child?

So many questions must have been running through her mind.

What will this mean for me? What will the future hold for me? Can this really be true? Am I worthy? Can I do this? Can I take care of the Messiah, the Son of God?

So many uncertainties. So many unknowns in this equation.

The angel only gave her one assurance:

‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. And so the child will be holy and will be called Son of God.

36 And I tell you this too: your cousin Elizabeth also, in her old age, has conceived a son, and she whom people called barren is now in her sixth month,

37 for nothing is impossible to God.’ Luke 1

Nothing is impossible to God. The Holy Spirit will come upon me.

No other assurance is needed.

God, All-powerful, will do this for me, in me, and with me. With His Holy Spirit.

It will not be by my own strength, by my own power, by my own doing but by the power of the Most High God.

The angel told me to give Zerubbabel this message from the LORD: “You will succeed, not by military might or by your own strength, but by my spirit.
Zechariah 4:6 GNBDK

Then everything else the future holds? They’re all in the capable hands of my loving Father, all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present God.

And with this assurance, Mary gave her fiat, saying yes to the will of the Father.

38 Mary said, ‘You see before you the Lord’s servant, let it happen to me as you have said.’ And the angel left her. Luke 1

Say yes to the will of the Father

Do you want to live a life that pleases God?

Say yes to the will of the Father.

Everyone who had ever been used by God one way or another so powerfully in His work of saving the world had to say Yes to the will of God.

And to keep saying Yes.

Because what God wants may not be what I want. And oftentimes what God wants makes no sense to me at all.

What’s worse is He doesn’t give us the whole picture, He gives us one thing to say Yes to and that’s it.

No telling of the future and what will happen if I say yes or no.

But always He gives us an assurance of His Person.

He is God. Most High.  Nothing is impossible with Him.

With that nothing more is needed.

And He invites us into a partnership.

Follow Me – deal or no deal?

Mary said yes. Joseph said yes. Jesus said yes.

Jesus, being the Son of God, said Yes.

He shows us nothing is more important than doing the will of God.

Therefore, when Christ enters into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You have not desired,

But [instead] You have prepared a body for Me [to offer]; In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have taken no delight.

Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come To do Your will, O God— [To fulfill] what is written of Me in the scroll of the book.’”

Hebrews 10:5‭-‬7 AMP

Doing the will of God. Nothing pleases God more.

Now your turn

Do you want to live a life that pleases God?

Dear Lord,
